KNOW WHO IS A STEEM WITNESS(A hangout on discord app with the big mama @maryfavour)
It was an eye opener to me yesterday during the 2hrs hangout session on discord app with one of our able and amiable steemit ambassador @maryfavour who enlightened us about steem witnesses, who they are and the role they play on the steemit community.
So I decided to share it with most us here especially the minnows so that they too will gain more knowledge about the steem witnesses.
During the 2hrs interaction with her, she was able to enlightened us on the following:
QST - WHO ARE STEEM WITNESS?
ANS - A Steem witness is a person who validates and create blocks for the Steem blockchain.
This validation and creation of blocks has to to do with the processing of information,in the steem blockchain.
These steem witnesses are voted by the community through a process known as delegated proof of stake (DPoS), an algorithm invented by Dan Larimer (Former CEO of Steemit).
What are the functions and jobs of a Steem Witness?
Securing the steem blockchain.
Running a reliable seed nodes.
Maintaining an accurate price feed in order to have an accurate USD peg of STEEM tokens to the Steem Dollar in the internal market.
Most of them have various projects which promote steem.
It is also petinent to know that it is not steemit witness but steem witness, as some people use to misuse.
The top 20 witnesses, according to @stellabelle are paid a fixed amount/month. However the remaining witness also known as backup Witnesses are paid varying amount/month.

A Witness at spot #58 is paid roughly $300 per month.
QST. - Are there a fixed number of witnesses meant to run on the block chain?
ANS: There are presently 101 Steem Witnesses revealed to us.
QST. - What is our benefits voting the steem witnesses?
ANS. - Our benefit of voting them is to show our support for them to continue to secure the steem blockchain & process information of all those posts we write every second.
IMPORTANCE OF STEEM WITNESSES
- I think if there is no witness to validate transactions, then there'll be no rewards for users. The blockchain will be meaningless to content creators.

I never knew what a steem witness considering I'm a minnow. Just getting to know there was something like that and it contribution to the steemit society. . Thanks @mike4christ for sharing your knowledge. I will love to attend the next seminar so as to be more educated by @maryfavour.
