Effective Leadership #6 - Developing Strengths in General
Hello Steemians! Hope you are all wonderful. Welcome to yet another article in Effective Leadership series. Identifying and understanding about the strengths is very important for a leader. After understanding what your strengths are, you can find ways to develop it. Every person is a mixture of strength and weakness. In order to be a successful leader, one should focus on developing the strengths. An ability to manage money and people is important for a leader along with self-motivation and self-confidence. A true leader should be with a full determination to attain your targets with all these skills.
High Goal Setting
Success doesn't come easily without a proper planning. A good leader should be focused on setting goals and especially the ones that are achievable and realistic. Taking calculated risk is a skill that is required for a leader to be successful. The risk taken by a leader should also be documented in a paper to be acceptable by everyone. Setting up goals for the individual as well as the team will help in the frequent evaluation of the goals that are set and provide control over the path the leader is leading the team. This will also help in understanding the long-term vision of the organization and your contribution towards success. Goal setting may not just for the individual but it is important to set right goals for the team. The productivity of the team is determined only based on the goals set by the subordinates and the progress they make towards achieving the goals.
Focusing on strengths and not on the weakness
As mentioned in the earlier paragraph, it may not be very easy for someone to identify all the weakness they have. Doing mistakes can project the weakness of a person. Accepting the mistakes and weakness one possesses is the first step towards eliminating them. It is not possible for a person to live with just strengths alone. A true leader should accept their weakness and focus more on their strengths. There was a wonderful quote from the movie Doctor Strange:
We never lose our demons, Mordo. We only learn to live above them.
There is no possibility of eliminating the weakness completely. We can instead focus more on our strengths and live above our weakness. In order to understand more about their weakness, leaders can contact their subordinates and get feedback from them. Approaching a good mentor can also help in understanding about their weakness. Listing out unsatisfactory things in your people management skills from your subordinates and finding ways to improve them can be a good solution. A wise way to identify your strength and weakness is to make people work with you and for you.
Mastering figures
There are some leaders who are uncomfortable in working out money. This is a mandatory skill for a leader. You can either get help from a mentor or attend a course to learn this skill. The employer will not be happy if you have problems in working out figures. An effective leader should be able to sit down and work out the figures of a business completely to understand the reality of the business and how these numbers are going to bring change in the team and business. Leaders will also be in a position sometimes to decide the numbers of the team members. In such situations, there can be unhappy subordinates and it becomes a mandatory responsibility of the leader to handle this smooth with the team.
