Raising the White Flag! Damn it, do I have morals or something like that? How comes?

in #steemit6 years ago

I feel remorse about my earlier flagging decision. This was a confusing topic in my mind for the last hours. I read several comments on my post about raising the red flag and I realized what step I was actually doing by flagging someone. I am distrust in the person I can not know anything about, I distrust the unknown. The one thing I can only give my trust to for I have no other option.

Another thought: Even a person who creates a bot to comment on people has gone so far to do this step. I do not know how such a step is done. There has been some effort in this behaviour. It is possible that this option that is very desperate in the end is the only option someone has. Maybe someone uses the thing just to enrich him/herself? I can never know. Should I judge another? I am thinking about my first time on steemit too. I was doing shitty comments all the time... Man, this is hard to admit but I was just thinking thats how its done. I went to steemit meetups and understood more of what steemit might offer the people but also I noticed how important it is for steemit to stay attractive to the users because only through the users the plattform can have a value that is represented in the coins. That is why I want to see quality posts out there getting good votes. Because I was in a very unfaithful time in my life when I felt like there was nothing more for me to express when I discovered steemit. I had money problems and I did not know what to do at all. I wanted to write, but for a newspaper or well, I guess I had not so many ideas how to motivate myself to write something for something. This community started supporting me because I wwrote quality blogs. Now I wonder what if someone joined steemit because he heard there is money in this and they are just so deep in their problems, they can not express something of themself. They just need to live... Are they not precious too?

I think eventhough I will not power down I will not make a judgment decicion to the negative anymore. I have been called rich girl in the comments too and this somehow confused me. People like me and other content producers have helped to make this community grow and that is how new users get to know this platform to critizise that on the way we earned steem, by doing what they want to do. I am happy this community gave me such support and I get money for writing and creating art and I know that I was lucky because I got to know about this so early. I was annoyed with shit comments and content and I am happy that this community is producing so much great content - we can not be destroyed by some random bullshit posters. And even if they cash out a bit... The good content gets better votes...

Maybe this is enough for now. I am not feeling to bad about myself in the end I will unflag the people. I happened to have a change in my image of how I wanted to be with other people. What do you think... Is this a disapointment for the new users of steemit who are doing their best to write great content and are not appreciated? In my last post many users supported my opinion to flag bullshit comments. I wonder how the comments are this time? Will you change your mind? Is this what I wanted to do with this article? Are you just mirroring my opinion to be sympathatic? Can a brain that thinks of such confusions be trusted? I hope you are all well and you are not stinky with me about this rasant change in mind.

This was a lot of plain text. I did not even put a picture... I wonder if someone reads it?... wonder if anyone ever reads it...

A member who buys their votes and upvotes their own comments with 74 accounts in a trail once flagged me nearly 200 times because I did not agree with how they came to my blog, trolled, then upvoted their own comments. I flagged those comments. We agreed to remove the flags. That user later came to the same post of mine and upvoted two more of their own comments 74 times each. That, to me, is a con artist. Just because a con artist is hungry and wants money, that doesn't mean we have to feel sorry for them. I left that person alone and directed a few others to look at their behavior. Those people seeing how that person acts beats the flags.

When I see someone buy votes and selfishly remove $1000 worth of rewards away from all of us so they can whine about being flagged, I feel like flagging them. I think everyone should. We want our tokens to hold value. If everyone bought $1000 worth of rewards just to be able to keep up, that would mean $1000 worth of rewards is the new zero. I believe we are naive to think we must allow others to steal and exploit the system so many more of us respect and adore.

I came across a member recently who had nothing good to say about her followers. She buys votes because she thinks this place is only about making money. She refuses to step up her game and even said views don't mean shit. So she buys these votes and cashes out then brags about how well she's doing on Steemit. Those type of people, I feel, deserve to be flagged as well. They are not earning, they are depending on a paid handout that takes rewards from everyone else so they can buy shiny things. The lowest of the low. I can't feel sorry for people like that. They will stab you in the back the first chance they get. Respect is earned, not a given. Anyway, I'm rambling.

We have a mute button, there is no need to flag imo.
What a good comment is, is subjective. what i think is the bests comment ever others think is crap and vice versa. If everyone stopped trying to protect others from what they percieve is something "they" dont like and used the mute like a big kid 90% of the problems on this platform would go away. IMO
Unfornatlly the other 10% is the reason the flags were implemented in the system.
I personally have never flagged anyone and will never flag anyone. the only use i think it should be used for is child porn.

I hope more people read what you said and maybe think twice about their own stance on flagging.

cheers and steem on!

Very good point. That was my problem too. When I saw the comments I did not know at which point they were just automatically created or which just sounded ramdon to me. I guess I will go back to muting now and try to rethink decitions have not made for more than one year longer then just reacting in a bling annoyed state of mind. Thank you for writing a nice comment.>Nice to see that you have read my article and participated in the descussion.

:D
I get alot of the random comments too and the bots, i personally think counter information is the key to stoppping it, like if people posted once in a while the people they muted and why others might read it and mute the same people.

I am someone that strongly supports free speech even when people are saying stuff i dont like or disagree with. If someone feels the need to express them self by way of bot i could care less th. the only 2 people i have muted has been for spamming. after muting them i didnt care that they were spamming the chain as i didnt have to see it anymore.

As for what ones are just random people spamming or actual bots, we will prolly never know as more then half the accounts on this site are bots.
:D

Im just glad people are starting to talk about this stuff and a conversation is actually happening, use to be if you disagreeded with flagging your account was killed for saying something about it.
lol

Well, I read you, and I read the previous article and I did not want to comment because I thought that was a personal decision that you made, I am new I barely have 2 months and the first week I made a lot of spam, but I learned that it is not the correct way, and it was thanks that some users responded that this is bad seen here in steemit, I in particular started to follow you through the competitions but knowing your art is a privilege to follow you. and now that I express you like this I see that you are very sincere, even if you do not put red flags, it would not be bad for you to respond to those who put spam that is not right

Yeah, I think taking back the decition is the harderer part of this in the eyes of the community because we want to get this thing going for people who are really willing to contribute something. But I wonder if there are people who just feel they can not. I am still not totally shure if I managed to unflag the somments. My blog does not show the flag anymore but someone else flagged so it is still grey. Yet I want to send a signal of trust in the selfregulating system by upvoting good content. I am happy you changed your mind and want to create better content and contributions to the community. This comment of yours makes me happy.

gracias, me alegra que te haga bien mi comentario. también te puedo decir que al expresar tu opinión has abierto un tema que esta muy popular hoy, y estos debates permiten mejorar steemit...
thank you, I'm glad you comment well. I can also tell you that by expressing your opinion you have opened a topic that is very popular today, and these debates allow us to improve steemit

well, first off I am still so new I didn't even know we could 'flag' someone or what, exactly, it even means. I do think that many who come to Steemit are just used to the social media platform in general. I find, on facebook, and instagram, that sort of just random posting and nonsensical commenting seems to be what is expected, so maybe in some way our new burgeoning digital society is a bit to blame for the idea of 'nonsensical comments'. I am not making excuses and it is annoying. I try to share my art that takes time to make or I post some silliness, that still is good content I feel, but you will still get a silly comment that is just random. I followed the link to the other post and then in that post to the one you flagged. Such things are probably either meant to provoke or on subconscious level the poster crying out to the great eternal unblinking eye that is the digital world. It can be a cold place, this virtual world we all inhabit, staring back at a screen that is neither good nor bad, positive or negative might just get to some. Maybe that original post was that sort of human cry out to the cold 1's and 0's to see if anything or anyone would comment back. Who can know. I hope this doesn't mean you are leaving Steemit, however. I think a world with good and bad is just, well, the world. And maybe it's better to have some random or even idiots around to better appreciate what we do have? I don't know. Sometimes I comment back silly things, like one nonsensical comment on my post I simply replied, "I haven't a clue what you are saying, but I love the way you said it" which meant nothing to the commenter who probably never saw it but made me smile and did no end of good to my day. So, stay on Steemit and I hope my too long comment is as annoying as random spam. :)

Wow, this comment gave me goozebumbs. It is true that the digital world. The conversation with the screen is very surreal and but it is our decition how we react to that. I will try out what you are proposing. Answering silly stuff has made me see the comment that was annying to me before in another light. It gave me the chance to explore my own humor. I could make this more regular to take away the negative emotions from them. Yet, I am not sure if I will have enough jokes ready to answer so much but ignoring or muting is another peaceful option that I will probably take. I am happy you are with me of this journey through consciousness.

I wouldn't have a problem flagging shit comments. If you're going to do something, do it with logic and conviction. If I check a person's comment tab and every line is the same shit over and over again, I'd flag that comment. Why should I bother feeling bad about flagging or about the newbies who only look to exploit the platform?

I didn't buy Steemit ICO so I'm still trying crawl out of the shit hole. I can respect that they're trying to earn but I'm not going to take their bullshit. If I can crawl out of the bottom, so can they. This is the Wild West, the one with the fastest hand or biggest cards wins.

Fair enough :D I respect your way of seeing it (What else can I have regarding to the heavy fluctuations in my mind lately). I did not buy steem but as I wrote I was lucky to be a early member and had the chance to meet others and meetups where I learned more about the idea of steemit. In the beginning the thing that sticks in your mind after someone tells you about it is that you can make money by posting. I know how disappointed I often felt about those comments but in the end I have always the option to ignore them. If I see something I like I can easily give a vote that makes the one who gets it happy. Maybe new members will learn to recieve comment upvotes too by really starting to participate. Keep on doing it the way you think is right. I have made up my mind for now...

:)...
this is not a bot comment...and yes I just read it all...
;)

Thank you for the verification :D :D :D

Its okay to flag those who make unnecessary comments but please warn them before you flag them. yes it is a lot of plain text with a valuable message in it :)

is your comment an "unnecessary comment" and who is the person that deciedes what is and isnt an "unnecessary comment"?

you might have seen now a days we could see a emoji comments that are made by bots. I said that are unnecessary. pardon me if I am wrong and I do agree with your statement

:D
I just see it as subjective.
one mans trash is anothers treasure.

As the term subjective is as is the decition how to react towards the subjectively disliked. I want to be at peace with that. I have recieved a lot through this community and I want to be a giver too and not take more than I can subjectively make a good judgement about. I hope that since I made posts for both sides I experienced myself in different mindstates. I feel much calmer and happier now.

Thats the only thing we can control, how we react or take offence as no one can give offence it can only be taken.
Self reflection like you have done is rare, you are lucky that you can do it. most cant now days.

Calm and happy is always better then stressed and annoyed.

by the way you earned an follower @skeptic loved your words.

wow thank you.
TBH most my posts are just gifs and memes anymore. for anything like what i say in comments you would have to go to my posts from like a year or more ago. My account has been killed by the whales a couple times so i usually self censor.
so, you might not be to impressed with my posting.
lol
but still thank you!

ps i followed back.
:D

Well thought nice blog @yoganarchista

This is not really helping me to keep this going but I recommend you to write more informative comments from now on. It will help you to get recognized.
