Some thoughts on the current direction of social media...
The alt-tech revolution.
As censorship continues to become a more pressing matter with major tech firms we will begin to see an increasingly strong desire to move away from the services they provide.
Personally, I feel this a good thing in general. More competition will create a fantastic environment for content creators. As far as I can tell this situation will ultimately be a positive thing.
With that said, I am now starting to see one unexpected side effect that is important to prepare for.
Ownership of content is going to lose a lot of its meaning.
This means that the value of what you will do next May become more valuable than the content you have already created.
Now you might be wondering about how I am arriving at this conclusion.
I think that all you need to do is examine what features the alt-tech services will be providing the most.
Decentralization anti-censorship functionality will be a core design principle.
This is great for political discourse indeed. If such systems are pressed hard enough we may see things go so far that even in the advent of government regulations the systems will render enforcement impossible without serious intervention.
Not all content is political in nature.
So this brings up one major side effect I see in the future. How will you maintain ownership of non political content in an environment where it's built to be decentralized with anti-cenorship countermeasures?
The answer is, you probably can't. It's likely more important that you gain value by garnering an audience as apposed to selling access to your movies and images.
Like I said above, what you can do next will likely be worth more than what you have already done. People will follow you on social media to get faster access to your content.
Corporations will easily suffer the most in this environment.
Not just corporations, but anyone who depends on selling access to their content for extended time will have a much harder adjustment period.
Services such as Bitchute and Dtube are likely going to hit corporations very hard. I suspect that there is going to a very large campaign that will be waged by the old guard media. Movies and TV shows are going to be more easily pirated than ever before.
We may see an immovable object come in contact with an ultimate force.
