The Power Down "Experiment" Starts Now

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I just started a Power Down; I am starting from the position of 6,811.818 Steem Power. I am holding onto my 44 SBD in the meantime, as a hedge against a crash in Steem value; Also, I have about 107 in incoming rewards at the moment, according to SteemViz

Let me see; IIRC, I was at about halfway to dolphin status, with an account value circa $400, when I took some money ($400 from selling a WOW account and some GRC mining) and bought the rest of the way up; so I hit dolphin at $800 account. So the experiment has to account for that as well.

This isn't a real, scientific experiment, but I do want to see some things:

  • How fast can I return to an equitable balance (including re-investing, if necessary)
  • Can I, in fact, write myself back into the game
  • How long the price holds, or maybe increases
  • The lowered effects on curating
  • Whether I can live in the fast lane (for me) for three months

Now there is a definite downside here:

  • I feel good upvoting and seeing an eight or nine cent increase on someone's post; I know that is peanuts compared to the potential that some whales and orcas have, but it did make me feel like I was contributing to the platform in more ways than writing
  • Yes, I will tear out my hair if Steem shoots up exponentially, which I think is a likely possibility ;> But sometimes, you just gotta say WTF

Hopefully, as I go through this, I can share my experience with y'all. But I hesitate to label this as a learning experiment.

Here's why:

A boy is given a horse on his 14th birthday. Everyone in the village says, “Oh how wonderful.” But a Zen master who lives in the village says, “We'll see.” 'The boy falls off the horse and breaks his foot. Everyone in the village says, “Oh how awful.” The Zen master says, “We'll see.” The village is thrown into war and all the young men have to go to war. But, because of the broken foot, the boy stays behind. Everyone says, “Oh, how wonderful.” The Zen master says, “We'll see.”

You never know what is coming down the road. Unless a choice is clear cut when you make it, there is no point questioning it if other events change the outcome!

Sort:

powering down only turns your steempower into steem. it is when you sell it on the market for sbd that it effects the market. till then you are only turning steempower (13week powerdown and untradeable on market with 10% inflation) for steem (can sell on market, no power down but 100% dilution/deflation). so it does not really effect the market till your selling or buying.

good to see you back, havent seen you on for a while...bu then again I was off running around Texas for 2 months ;>

oh, yes, planniing to sell as long as Steem stays at same price. I can sell less and reinvest if Steem goes up

keepining incoming SBD if Steem tanks ;>

I have come back a couple times. each time only to get pushed further in negative rep. how was texas?

it's my state; I was doing some family troubleshooting, and I'll leave it at that

well hope it was atlest 50% good then. family is good and bad depending on situation. xD

I think this is a very blue collar honest write up on a very practical experiment.

And your experiment causes not hurt feelings or flags in the community, the way some things have been done on here at times LOL

This is a great post by you my man!!!

I surely hope there would be no hard feelings ;>

I'm only an asshole on Mondays LOL

Hahahahahah!

I loves ya buddy.

Like 6 days a week for sure hahahaha

meep

Meep, check my comments here for ya LOL

meep meep meep meep meep. meep meep meep meep, meep meep meep. meepmeep meep meep meep meep; meep meep meep!

meepmeep?

I invited Meep here to the

#SteemitCampfire

Weekendly meetings and hangout on my page, figured the people there would be having fun getting meeped a lot, so I tried that and also the meeping you have done...

Nothing worked and I was like - WTM?

What the Meep?

you have to meep the meep, but meepmeep meep

It's a meep fest on this thread now I see!

How come you decided to power down? Must have been a catylist?

not really; I have been living "poor" by my standards for a while. My needs are met (food, housing, etc), but I have to borrow money for family if i want to go out, or to buy something. I really don't want to do that, so I don't go out.

I have the opportunity now to do fun things, like buy bustiers and stockings for some friends, or go to the titty bar, or just hang out with folks w/o feeling like a mooch. If the price holds, I don't have to spend all my power down, and can reinvest. I just have the feeling to go do it.

understood and your honesty is pretty cool

glad I met you off of steem

I'm one of those dumbasses w/o a brain-to-mouth filter, but I usually get away with it ;>

good to meet you as well!

I think I'd be too attached to that awesome curating power to let it go if I were in your place.

it is nice; I hope to earn my way up to it again ;>

I just remembered, I have to edit the post to account for something. thanks for making the association in my head!

Loved the Zen master's story. I am always just about to kick myself and pull my hait out whenever I feel that I should invest on a currency, but didn't, and it ends up doing 5x up after a few days.

Now I'm a little comforted. I wont be kicking myself anymore. A little hair-pulling maybe lol

LOL, I feel the same about BTC. I decided against buying in at $80 bucks, saw it go up to $120, kicked myself, then thought it couldn't go higher ;>

Hell, I'm old and fat...I might have a heart attack eating my first Steemit purchased Baconator ;> All the Steem in the world does me no good after that

My btc story- back in 08 or 09, my friend and I were discussing if we should invest on btc. At the time, our Php 1250 (about $25), we could have exchanged for 2000 btc.

Well we didnt go for it and i didnt bother on crypto after.

Imagine my horror when i learned btc was at $1500 last month. Haha

Anyways, go go go power down and live a life int he fast lane =^_^=

LOL!

I followed you just now because of that BTC horror story sister LOL!

that would have been a tidy amount!

but here you have a chance to do it again!
well, except I mean make money this time!

Yeah, would only have made me a multi-millionaire here (Php 300M).
Never too late to start. Although I'm starting small, it is paying off so far. Steem @0.33 when i first bought early this month hehe.

thats a lot of lumpia LOL

just looked at your blog - you gotta write more!

I am meaning to! I'm too caught up encouraging my network to take a look at crypt and steemit. It is not big in Philippines and I don't want my friends/family to miss out. I'm starting to I'll focus on me for a while I guess.

just write when you feel like it, and what you want to write about

...but you should feel like a lot LOL

every post you write w/ a half decent payout will make you want to write more, and you will get to the point where you can see a few bad payouts in a row and you won't care, coz you know a good one will come eventually...you will have seen it before ;>

Yay! Gained a follower- one good thing that came out of my bad decision on btc. Hmm maybe i should make a list lol.

No sense earning it if you can't spend some of it! Sit back and enjoy it!

exactly. gives me three months to play around and see what happens! thanks!

Best of luck with your experiment!

i intend to enjoy it thoroughly LOL

Hahahaha!! Yes guy!!

Enjoy your 3 month power down vacation @stevescoins

By the looks of it you deserve it!

If you happen to come back from vacation early, feel free to Stop the Power Down.

Remember...

Have Fun, it's Steemit

:D

Oh, I'll still be writing here, that's part of the experiment, to see if I can get back up to a similar amount of Steem Power

Thanks for the words, Cassidy ;)
