RE: Is this a place for creative people? What can be done about the tyrants on Steemit?
So far this platform is mostly attracting get-rich-quick people. Abusing things like delegated SP (used to upvote oneself), voting bots, and single users controlling multiple accounts, are what is most embarrassing about this platform. A prime example of these abuses is over on Dmania, where if you look at the highest pay-out accounts, the memes they post are all garbage; the source of the pay-outs is from voting bots, etc., not the quality of the meme.
Anyway, I've started to stop worrying about pay-outs on my posts (mostly memes), and I'm just looking for views and upvotes on them (which don't happen). Maybe my memes suck too, but in the end I believe people choose to vote according to expected pay-out, not according to quality, or creativity. So if you have good content, it's likely no one will even look at it here because everyone's activity on Steemit is focused on getting rich, not on finding creative or quality content.
Thank you for your comment, but I don't share your assessment. There are certainly people gaming the system, but it is important to understand the upvoting bots are a risky investment. People who appear to be making money with them have often spent more for the upvote than they received for the rewards.
It happens all the time. You can look at their activity and see how much they paid the bot, and how much the rewards were for the upvote. It's frequent that they lose money, or their profit is on the order of 1%. It does sometimes work out for them, though. It's basically gambling.
Also, your reputation score is 30. The higher that number gets, and the more followers you have, the more traction your memes will get. There are plenty of people here producing quality content aside from the get-rich-quick crowd.
