Steemit - is everyone leaving?

in #steemit7 years ago
I'm reading an awful lot about the demise of Steem and people queuing at the doors to leave.

I've seen and read a few posts where people are powering down and selling their accounts.

I've even read a few posts where people think that Steem might never recover.

If you are here for the money, I think that you should leave now, we are all making a small bit of money and that is probably what initially attracted us to the platform. I for one had no real idea about crypto currencies until I joined Steemit. I had obviously heard about Bitcoin but the wonderful world of Crypto currencies was still a wonderful mystery to me. It still is a mystery but I have purchased a few different coins and believe that in the long term they are good investments.

That is an aside, I've posted a few times of the real benefits and the absolute magic of this site. I have made a few good friends and have rediscovered a few dormant aspects of my personality that I had forgotten.

I've written a few short stories, posted about productivity, I've given my opinion on Steemit and what is good and bad practice and as time passed I have stopped looking at the value of the upvotes and how much money I have made (which is probably for the best) and have just enjoyed reading some quality work from people who are passionate about their content.

The tagline for Steemit should really be

I came here for the money and stayed for the friends.

Maybe that is naive and ultimately Steemit will fail, but it will only fail if we all stop posting good quality and valuable content that people want to read and if we stop connecting and communicating.

For the moment, I think that Steemit is safe!

Keep Steeming my friends.

This footer is one of the best things that I have ever seen, thanks to @ryivhnn for his creativity and generosity in giving me this, please follow him!

I upvoted. Though I've been getting discouraged about posting for now, I've started to focus on finding good accounts to follow that I can upvote and not only earn a little bit by curating, but also actually follow account that post cool stuff I'm interested in.

I think the key to enjoying Steemit is to use it like other social networks, where you focus on following and interacting with other accounts via upvoting and commenting, rather than constantly trying to post your own stuff. Also, follow things you're interested in. It's that combination of making a little money while also enjoying cool content just like you would on other social networks. If we do that, I think we can make Steemit a good experience on a daily basis. That's enough to make me stay.

I would agree, I have been a bit quieter than normal over the last few weeks, but I think that i am going to up my game. As far as I can see it, this quiet time is also a real opportunity to build up my own community so that when Steem is back on the up again, I can catch that wave.

That aside, I do feel more comfortable commenting than posting, but I am trying to work on that as well. Thanks very much for the upvote and the comment, I do appreciate both.

This type of thing has occurred before. I've been here 1 year and noticed it several times. But Still Steemit is stronger than its ever been. Like you say if people are only here for the potential money then they get a reality check very quick and that's them gone.

I think that it is the reality check that needs to happen, I actually did think that I could stay on Steemit and give up work within a few weeks ;-) Then reality kicked in and I found out that there were some other real benefits to Steemit :-)

It would be nice if you could give up work. Over a few years between post earnings and increase in Steem price, who knows? But right now - like you say there's that thing called reality standing in the way.

nice post Visit my profile

@nadj, thank you for the comment, I'll have a look at your profile over the next few days.

I completely agree with your post, especially the tagline. I can't remember how many times I've said almost those exact words to people here on Steemit in the last few weeks.

For me its about the connections and the community. Anything else is a bonus. I myself havent dipped my toe any further than Steem for crypto but it's definitely intriguing. Of course these the word isn't short of rabbit hole-esque intrigue.

But so far all I look for in Steemit is what every other social media doesn't seem to have......real people having real discussions and sometimes interactions.

So like you say hopefully the community will rise to the challenge overall and it'll go from strength to strength. Because it clearly has the capability.

@alioops I appreciate you stopping by. It does seem to be getting quieter here as the days go on, but I am lucky in that the connections that I have made seem to be staying on Steemit and it makes it all the richer for me.

I do think that the community will rise to the challenge and in a few years time Steemit will have gone from strength to strenght and we will wonder why we even worried about the demise of Steemit :-)

Nice post, and I love to make friends. I just joined and will bring my followers soon, and i just followed you also

Many thanks and keep spreading the word and many thanks for the follow, I'll check out your profile later today.

Let’s hope Steemit is here to stay, but if anything goes haywire, it won’t be the users’ fault, I think.

@arekwolf as always, you talk complete sense, there is definitely a core of people here in Steemit that will make it work.

Thank you for posting @scottish01.

Interesting thoughts and yes....it is the people factor that has suffered since the last HF.

Steemit is an opportunity for free enterprise and freedom to operate...however socialism as a concept is deeply rooted in many people's thinking.......in the idea...a person should receive something for nothing.

The latest HF changed some of the dynamics here at Steemit.

Perhaps someone can run the statistics or already has......it does appear many SP holders are finding other uses for their investment..........farming it out.....renting it out......powering down...etc...... as holding SP beyond a certain amount is not finanicially beneficial. The great leveling as some have called it is just that. There are those who have a certain amount of power....any amount of power who in many cases vote a small percentage hoping to receive percent for percent vote.......rather than value for value......thus the greater SP holders do not receive value even when the voter could have brought value.

ie. a voter with 10,000 SP votes say 10% equalling 1,000 value.....now how is the return voter with say 100,000 to vote in return? Should he vote 10% in return or 1%?

And yet if this voter votes value for value......the initial voter is left in a quandry....does he vote his precious 100% and be fair....... or does he decide to no longer vote for that 100,000 SP account. Yes...carefully cultivated online contacts have been severed for this very reason. And yes....many higher SP accounts are renting out their SP.....selling their votes.....powering down...etc. There are new online accounts popping up rather frequently to sell votes.

Many principles come to mind for these very interesting dynamics.

Here is one....When money becomes an issue......money is not the problem.

Thank you for the opportunity to think on these things.

Wishing you and yours all the best. Cheers.

@bleujay, thank you for stopping by. You are right, HF 19 really changed the dynamics of Steemit, I find that my own behaviour has changed ever so slightly, although I have tried to rectify it over the last few days/weeks.

As always your principles cut straight to the root of the matter

Here is one....When money becomes an issue......money is not the problem.

Money isn't really the problem, I think that the Steemit community is being tested as a whole, we stand united or fall divided. At the moment I think that there is more of a movement towards unification and community and I for one am glad to be part of the Steemit community.

Many thanks for the kind wishes, I hope that you have an excellent day :-)

I'm sooo naive I didn't know of this potential demise.
Anyhoo, I'll carry on as normal. Very interesting post though,...... resteemed :)

@eggmeister Thank you for reading and re-steeming . I think that you are better off not being infected by such negative and troubling thoughts as leaving Steemit :-)

How to sell account?

Good post!! I am not sure if I am staying or leaving at this point. I have not been writing for a bit now because I have been busy with my ceramics and pottery business. But I am extremely discouraged by the scammers that are here on steemit. In that regard, it is no different than Facebook or any other social media. I have made some wonderful friends here and enjoyed writing very much, but being almost caught up in one person's scheme has left a bad taste in my mouth for this or any social media. The money could be good at some point or at least helpful. But I learned a long time ago, money is not everything. I do enjoy writing about my passions and miss it. Time will tell what my final decision is, I'm still not totally sure.

Thanks fur taking the time to reply, I do feel that Steemit is kind of changing a bit, but I do feel it would be a shame if it failed as there are some really good people here.

Give it some time before you finally make your decision.

Yes, there are some really good people here, that is why I have not totally packed it in and left. I hope the powers behind steemit can find a way to get rid of the scammers and make this a great place. Time will tell.

Yes there are some good people here, that is the main reason I have not totally given up yet.
