I have Been in retail my entire life, my first job was a bagger at a grocery store, and for some reason or another I never left the retail field. What I can tell you is this, over the past 5 years the work ethic in this country has gone down the shitter.
Over the past 10 years I have had the pleasure to work for a very down to earth, good hearted Christian company that does not really believe in technology. My company has also opened my eyes up to troubling situation that our country is beginning to face.
As a company we still do Paper Applications, you can not apply for a job any other way then manually filling out a paper applications. If you are able to do this CORRECTLY, then chances are we will set up an interview. Now first understand that about 50% of the applications are NOT filed out correctly, which is a different problem all in itself.
So if you make it to the interview, about half way through it I will pause and give you a math test, really simple only 15 problems.
I'm not talking anything hard here, just a simple math test with the 4 basics, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Anyone who is above the age of 15 should not have a problem. Well let me tell you that this is a PROBLEM! I did 6 interviews today and not one person could pass the Math Test. Now with my company, if you don't pass then the interview stops, plan and simple. This is a Problem, a serious problem! How or why would any person over the age of 16 not be able to complete a simple Math Test?
We have to wake up and see these issues, today's youth are tomorrow's leaders of this country and as of right now, they can't add numbers. You might say that they don't need to be able to do math with todays technology and you may be right. What happens when technology goes away, what happens when the internet goes away? There are basic things that all humans need to know how to do and Math is one of them.
So my message here is this, school's are failing to teach our children, you cant fail them also. Teach them what they need to know, what you know.....
Open your eyes up and make a change, before it gets any worse.

Agree. Reduced TV use (cut to basic cable) then comes internet streaming. The battle to shut out the crap from reaching kids is getting harder and harder.

Interesting view on the state of education and the job market. If a person needs to find a job, there should be one available. But what employers like yours are finding, there aren't qualified candidates to fill them. Then the minimum wage, maybe the person filling the position isn't worth the money you are paying them. Quite the problem in society. Heard recently, a majority are failing drug tests due to opiates, even if they pass the interview and move to the next step. Solution is trending toward ROBOTS
I guess robots building robots could work. Still leaves us with dumb kids.

“Screen time” is already a rationed commodity in our household — it really is alarming how addictive some bs videos can be — and we read with and do math together with Charlie — he already grasps basic concepts and can add single digits like a mofo! In September, when he enters gr. 1, l’m gonna’ be all over him! Line a fat kid on a smarty!!! 😍👍

I agree the schools are not helping the situation. I know a local elementary through high school started introducing tablets and computers that each student got. In some cases, the teachers apparently were not even teaching the students. It is crazy.

This is true in our country as well. The schools teach half the year on Identity Politics and Communist Ideology, then the basics like math get shoved aside. The kids go through the new standard corr math called "Math Makes Sense", which is ironic to say the least, cause the way they do it makes no sense.
Front end approximation math: 300 +300 = 600, to the rest of us, but, FEA math teaches that
300 + 300 = 1000
because the nearest rounded "5" number to 300 is 500, and 500+500=1000
I guess that type of math has worked for the Bank of Canada since '73
