Steemit in desperate need of upgrade!
** Frustrations **
After a few days of being reasonably ill, my fitness and mind are coming back. This morning I checked Steemit again, and I saw some posts about the speech by @ned about the SMTokens and how wonderful that all is. And don't get me wrong, the idea is great, but believe me, before this really can have an impact, let even work, this is going to take a shitload of work and time.

In the meanwhile, we keep on posting on Steemit, as usual and we keep on having the same issues... Slow network, uploads don't work, transfers don't go through, nodes are down, etc... This really, really bothers me. Steemit can possible change the future of social networks, but for some reason, the founders lost the focus on it.

** What needs to change? **
First of all, the network needs to get stronger and more resilient, it should be able to handle those DDOS-attacks, especially if it really is as decentralized as we are told.
Second, new users still have to wait days, sometimes even a week before they are granted access to the network, which is absurd. This is supposed to be to eliminate double accounts and bots... Well, I can tell, it isn't working. More than half of the users here are bots and have multiple accounts... So, why in heaven's name is this delay necessary?
Third, the interface needs a thorough upgrade. There should be a chat function integrated, so people don't always have to go to discord or facebook. This is absurd, if you want to compete with other social networks, why should you have to go to other social networks to talk? This is a serious problem.
We should be able to pinpoint certain users, to get them easier in our feed. Now all the people you follow are in the feed in a timeline order of their last post or resteem. I think it would be very handy if we could make certain users "favourites" or other possible solutions are available to make that possible.
A social network has people posting crap, which is their good right, so if we could filter the crap out in our feed, that would be splendid.
So, @ned and @dan, SMT is great, but please make work of these issues, otherwise I think Steemit is going to die a slow death.

I cant argue with a single thing you said. I believe there are different groups working on different things so I am not sure that the development of SMTs takes away from the development on steemit. I just think the development is slow in coming.
@ned did mention in a video that they are going to add communities to the site. This will help to foster the social aspect. However, it does not alleviate what you mentioned which a legit problems.
Glad I am not alone on this. I just have a distinct feeling loads of whales and developpers really don't care how things evolve, they rake in their money with the curation and the upvotes from eachother, but this could become huge, and they just don't realize it.
I think they realize it. @ned has bigger plans so I dont think he is going to let Steemit falls apart.
We need to remember we are still in beta stage and there is a problem with people. So far, there arent a ton of people on here which helps the network since there are technical issues. However, there are also less people to help out with some of the technical stuff that is taking place.
My hope is they do pull it together. The steem blockchain is very powerful. That said, I think to leverage it, the steemit name is required. It sets the model for all other SMTs.

I agree with you @pele23 so many upgrades needs to be done for us to leave a total population of 400,000 steemians
