Not Safe For What exactly???steemCreated with Sketch.

nsfw.png[rant alert] I remain confused about the NSFW notion - it really makes little sense to me that in several posts, I have been "warned" or flagged, yet the content is entirely legit to a relevant and "safe" subject, and has incorporated a non explicit image to represent the issue of censorship in context, or beauty in art, policed because of an attached exquisite 1920's photographic study in movement for example - b&w nude in profile in context - not pornographic - not threatening - at least no more than a Rodin sculpture - not anything that could question or compromise someone looking over my shoulder at work beyond reading anything on this platform at all.... so what on earth is the big deal - I don't see the fuss especially for progressive minds - or are we not that? NSFWhat exactly - for who??? The NSFWers seem eager to object, at the expense of relatively benign and thoughtful content. I don't want to tag a piece as not safe when it fucking well is perfectly safe! Loosen up! I don't need policing thank you very much [/rant alert]

example 1 https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@nik9/your-pocket-guide-to-the-secure-digital-cash-revolution-bitcoin-and-beyond - includes a screenshot of a humorous, non explicit image removed by FB image as example of censorship

example 2 https://steemit.com/photography/@nik9/invitation-of-the-ancients-nik9 - includes said elegant artistic nude to illustrate the voice of the poem

I know where your coming from cause to me this eventually turns into heavier content censorship if they decide oh you cant say this or that anymore. Kind of like what is going on with youtube.

and FB and China and the draconian olde world mindset in general!

In the example 1, there's clearly a man eating a woman, and in the second example, a full nude body. Nothing “shocking”, no genitals shown, so maybe it's not age restricted (the no less than 18/21 stuff), but still somebody could think it's better to mark the post with NSFW. Which doesn't mean just “porno inside”, it's something more broad and fuzzy, though surely porno is NSFW (unless you're a porn actor).

thanks @xinta - I still don't see why any of that is a problem unless it's hardcore and explicitly inappropriate in the work place - whatever that means to anyone reading anything on Steemit, I still don't honestly know - unless this is a fellowship of priests and puritans with narrow perception who need to be warned in case they might stumble upon something scurrilous! God forbid!

This is just Wikipedia, but it fits the use I've noticed, not just here but also elsewhere. There are matters which “divide” people in such a way a community needs to mark them; so that the one you call puritans still can be happy in the community. It's a little effort for you, just add the tag. The strong one should always protect the weak one, and puritans surely are so weak they need to be shielded by what they think can endanger their mind! :-)

Haha - that logic would be demeaning for supposed puritans, in spite of my glib words - and still does n't answer the real question. But your point well taken, thanks ;)

Puritans will forgive me, I hope :-)

Congratulation
