Scam on steemit.chat - Impersonating @gavvet (URGENT: Spread the Word)
This morning on steem.chat, I was approached by a scammer who's business plan is to get his victims to send him SBD on Bittrex in exchange of his $100 upvote on Steemit (of course you have to send him SBD first).
This person is using a username that is closely similar to a very reputable Steemian @gavvet in order to trick people into thinking it is him. The scammer is using (gavvit.) yes with a dot at the end on steem.chat and also the same profile picture being used by @gavvit on steemit.
A similar thing happened a while back also when some spamming troll @bilalhaider impersonated another reputable Steemian on chat and caused him trouble. He used a name close to @kafkanarchy84, which is the username of the well respected Steemian.
Back to today's scammer/abuse/identity thief. Now I do not know if people fall for these cheap scammers on Steemit. But it is worth sharing, as it could help someone. And @gavvet deserves to be aware of the scammer planting scams while impersonating him.

I will be posting screenshots of the conversation between the scammer and I below, I started to play around with him at the end after several failed attempts to get him reveal his Steemit username. It gets pretty funny.
I was trying to get his steemit username so we can expose him and flag him on this platform.
I failed at getting him to reveal his Steemit username so I started to mess with him a little.
I do not know what happened here but I guess he forgot that he was speaking to me for over half an hour.
OMG ! This is the same person that keeps scamming using all different people ! My son was also scammed by someone pretending to be @sweetsssj !! She was kind enough to send his money back and up voted his post , as he sent the money directly to her instead of bittrex thinking it may be a scam but wasn't sure !! This creep needs to be kicked out of steemit , relentlessly bothering everyone and impersonating some awesome steemians such as yourself ! Its getting ridiculous ! It is almost impossible to kick them out, the problem is that I was not able to find out his account on steemit he wouldn't give me that info so we just have to black list some usernames on the chat and if we can get their username here then we can flag them., I will check out the post you shared! :)

Was having the same thing a few days ago but he was impersonating @sweetsssj.. his English was so bad though I hardly could believe it was her and when I told him that he is a scam and this is not the real @sweetsssj he said 'I delete your account, hope you regret this' .. Good that the guy or gal seem quite dumb and illiterate to scam too many people. Always double check what you do guys.. and big names won't just pop up on steemit chat and ask you for a fiver..

He also use the nickname jamesc on https://steemit.chat/ and says that is jamesc from steemit.
Yes he contacted me also with that username right after I exposed him. But let us not confuse him with @jamesc on steemit. @jamesc and @gavvet need to be aware of what is going on.

STOPHeyo, the maximum thing you can do in this situation - ban his IP address in chat (that's will not work if he use Tor). Unfortunately, it's rather hard to deal with such persons T_T
I do not mind being contacted by these people, actually I do want the to reach out to me so that I can expose them and prevent others from falling for their nasty tricks.
This same impersonator tried to scam me too last week on Friday.
I also played him/her to reveal his/her methods.

There is also another account, probably the same guy, on steem.chat going by the name jamesc.
