The tulip was exotic and different to any plant in the land. It soon became a much sought item of prestige and status with trade in the flower making many merchants very wealthy overnight.

Everyone wanted one to call their own. One flower begets another until there was a profusion of tulips of many types with many colours. They had names such as Couleren, Violetten and Bizarden.

Growers with new varieties wanted to stand out from the rest. There gave their flower names such as “Admirael van der Eijck” and which became grander still with titles such as the “Admiral of Admirals” or “General of Generals".

Tulips were carefully cultivated and grows from bulbs and propagating through seeds and buds. Marketable bulb can take up to 7-12 years of tender loving care before they are sold on the market. As they become more popular their prices rose, those which are rare commanding ever higher prices. Seeing all this happen speculators entered the market and drove demand up. Even the more common bulb saw prices rapidly go up.

Near the peak of the tulip mania, bulbs were changing hands ten time s a day to make a quick profit. Then the market suddenly collapsed with only sellers and all the buyers gone.

I hate to be a spoil sports, now fast forward to today.

The tulip bubble revisited?

Is this the start of the crypto mania or something different?
