Sola, Yours, Synereo and Akasha

in #steemit6 years ago

When I started on Steemit there was a lot of talk about other projects working with the same idea. Akasha, Yours, and Synereo - and Later Sola.

These last days I have been trying some of them out, so here is a fast overview of my experiences

Akasha

I was one of the people who participated in the alpha test, and at that time I did not give it many chances. The interface was cumbersome and it was all happening in a rather slow app that had to chew through the whole Ethereum blockchain, or so it felt like. The beta that was just released and it is much better - I think it could become quite functional as a lighter social media - If Steemit is like Medium Akasha might be a bit like Facebook. There is still a lot of things that needs to be done and it is my impression that the team behind are working hard on making the ends meet and being responsive to the users.

All in all I am quite positive about this project.

Yours.org

I wrote a post about the Yours network yesterday and since then there have been no response to my post at all. Yours.org is mainly a Bitcoin cash wallet that can operate with other Yours.org wallets without a fee. Actually the same thing as Steemit but with no inflation (you have to bring the money to reward others). As people mostly comes to these new crypto sites to earn money (my self included), I find it hard to see that Yours.org will get the following it needs to prevail.

I am not positive about this one.

Synereo

I haven't tried Synereo yet as it seems they have only finished a tool called WildSpark, that works as a distributed meta-layer on top of existing media hubs and social networks ie. Youtube. It does sound like they have a good idea, but as I am not using mainstream social media that much I have until now not really felt any incentive to use it. It should be easy though and maybe I will try it when I find some time.

I don't really know about this one yet, but for me it will mainly be used as curator if I am getting to use it at all.

Sola

I just signed up on Sola yesterday and it is a media that is close to Instagram. You can post images and a little text and then you are supposed to scroll through these cards and upvote the ones you like. You only have a certain amount of point to use each day and they are used for both posting, commenting, and upvoting. For each post you make in one day the prize rises, a way to avoid spamming.

The whole thing is very slick and nice looking and it works like a dream. Sadly you have to go through endless memes, stock images of Alpine landscapes and girls in bikinis. I only saw two interesting cards today (and I have really worked me through a lot of them for this review) and I already knew one of them, it was the funny, elegant and sexy surrealism of @reinhard-schmid, and the other image, a gorgeous double exposure of a girl and a tree, was, I realised after checking it, another Steemian: my friend @shortcut.

Sola looks like one big copyright infrigement. I asked one person who had posted a nice drawing if it was herself who had made it... and it was not.

The only quality I see is people here from Steemit like @papa-pepper or the above mentioned. There are some photos that people has taken of them selves that is of course OK. I dont mind selfies and food-pictures even though I can't see the point in watching random peoples faces or meals, but the large part of Sola as I have experienced it is just the garbage of the internet that you could see on any other social media.

So I am not really that positive about Sola at all. I think I will try to post my images anyway with a link to Steemit.

So this is about it - Hope you can use the info.

Sort:

The Akasha project is using the Ethereum testnet, not the public one. In fact, they are not using the public testnet, but their own one, on their own server. That could be causing the slow performance.

Augur is doing the same. And it is quite slow, also.

I have just installed Sola on my mobile device and looks awesome. It is even translated into my language -the web version of the app isn't- and tries to provide me with content near my location or from users from my country. And it tries to do it just from the beginning.

I think I have just fell in love with Sola. Don't know what will feel SteepShot xDD :(

Yes, the Akasha project is taking it slow to make it right - the current thing is just testing and it seems that all the balls are still in the air - they need to figure out how to get around a lot of things. I like it when software is made that way, but if it wasn't for the strong Ethereum network I think they would lose in the competition. Now I see them standing a fair chance to make something real.

Sola is indeed working very well - I have had some feedback from people and will edit this post a bit to reflect my own newer experience and the ones of you that like it. My problem with it is mainly that I like to control what I get to see a bit more, but the Instagram concept is actually working quite well I admit that.

Of the platforms you describe, I find sola the easiest to use, although it has a lot less options than steemit. But once you find your way around a little, it can be somewhat entertaining. The wallet is suuuuuuuper slow and so far I have no clue, what one can do with sola.

Not sure about Yours.org The fact, that you have to buy in, will most likely be a deterrent and I don't think, many people will make an expense, just to see if they like it.

Got an account on Akasha, but now the app seems to have some bug and I can't get in anymore :-( While I had it working, it seemed interesting, although I got a downvote on my second post already...

I think Sola is probably a rather well functioning block-chain version of Instagram - I am just that fond of looking through 1000 images of peoples meals anymore - I do fancy girls in bikinis, but there are sites that specialise in such things - some of them even have girls without the bikini! I will continue to post both on Sola and Akasha, but only to keep oeriented of what happens. I will also rewrite the above a little before deadline to do Sola a bit more justice...

Great post @katharsisdrill .
I have heard about Yours and Sola, checked them, Yours was full of strange Asian amateur porn and Sola's slogan was like "we will help to spread your post like a VIRUS" , and in my head all I could hear was this echo "virus, virus, virus, virus", So I did not sign up, also looked a little bit sketchy... But maybe I was just paranoid, I will try to check it out again...
Thanks for the update!

Haha, yes they call it plague. Not sure if the SOL-token will ever fly, but the site is very well fundtioning. Just sad that there is so much nonsense. I will continue using it for a while to see if it gets better.

Hmm... how strange? Maybe I should investigate.

Nice content... Actually I haven't tried akasha, synereo and yours.org,but I just registered too on Sola, and I think it's promising, but the hardest part in Sola is u can only withdraw if u have up to 100 Sol..dats isn't nice. Maybe because am still new. It's hard to get my card endorse by users..but with positive mindset.it will be better.
And tanks for the info,am going to check on akasha...am starting to fall in love with crypto..received_1655870244471416.jpeg

What is your handle on Sola - I might prioritize your account and see what you are up to.

Nice post. My feeling is I only have so much time to devote to Steemit right now, I'd rather focus on Steemit rather than spread myself thing. When I have a larger library of work built up (everything on Steemit is everything we have made in comics), then I'll take a serious look at some of these for the back issues. I feel like Akasha is the one that will most likely be successful because Ethereum is a token that already has wide spread use (relatively speaking).

When the EOS project is complete, I predict that a formidable Steemit competitor will emerge on that blockchain.

Also, Minds is converting to crypto. They had some digital cash system that I thought was pretty stupid. The fact that they didn't see cryptocurrency was the future from the outset makes me have little faith in their team to develop a solid blockchain project.

Well, actually I only have time for this as my working time has been suspended a bit by a lot of furore in the family. Too much social network is very bad for the concentration. I think Akasha might be a supplement to Steemit taking over the short posts ala Facebook. Steemit is really a blogging platform like Medium even though the creators had a more facebooky thing in mind. I tried Minds, but didn't like the feel of the platform. Here people actually write things I like to read and there is much more relevant commenting.

Thanks for this overview. I'm on sola too and original content it's a mix of original content and copyright infrigement. I didn't found how to search someone on the site so i didn't found you :-) Rewards come slowly and sol (soil) is really cheap but the site is easy to use . I had the chance to do 11k , 1k and 4k with some of my first images and that's why i'm always in it but now i didn't reached the same scores.

I am https://sola.ai/katharsisdrill. The site is really nice, and I have found a way to go to the users that I like (most of them I already know from here anyway :) but it does anoy me that I am not able to sort more in what I get to see.

With "prioritise" you can choose a part of your feed by selecting chanels and people but it's not enough to have a clean feed like here on Steem.

@katharsisdrill
Thanks for sharing this wonderful post.
I just signed in on Sola and to be honest with you, am already having the same concerning just as you're, its just few persons that are putting real works there, people go online, download pictures and post it there, which to me , is not how it suppose to be. There should be a bot that will be checking the real authentication of each post just like here Steemit, where we have cheetah and some other bots that takes care of such. If not, I question the longevity of the platform.

I will continue using it for a while to see what it will bring - but there should be some more flagging that's for sure.

I published an article about SOLA last month and I must agree with you: 90% of the cards are copy/paste and stock photos and not very interesting...

Let's hope they can up their game. As for the others, I have not tried them (yet9.

Yes, Sola might just become something, who knows. The mechanics of the site is actually well working, but when it is filled with instagram nonsense it becomes tedious.

all that a good project please you start it someday you will know more which project is superior @katharsisdrill

This is a very interesting game i love it
Well explained
Thanks for share this sir
Keep continued
