My Thoughts On Masteryoda And "Plagiarism " On Steemit

in #steemit8 years ago

If I went onto reddit right now and said "hey everyone, stop posting anything except your personal experiences" I would be laughed at. If the reddit admins said that, people would be up in arms. If facebook started banning and censoring people who posted links to external content... it would be ridiculous. Why then are there so many who against using non-personal information to post on steemit?

It's funny because this is exactly what has happened to a poster here called @masteryoda. You can see his post [here] were he deleted all his posts after finally caving in and pandering to all the naysayers. And why... because he posted content that wasn't his. I just used an image of yoda above, do I have to give credit to star wars? Or maybe I shouldn't use it because I didn't make it. Why... because you could make money off it? People post things all the time on social media and earn companies big money through advertising. And now as soon as users get a piece of the pie, that's not allowed?

Steemit really needs to have a firm policy weer it stands on this. Are we a social media platform, or are we just a blogging platform where half the posts are "hey I have titties and I like travelling".

That analogy seems pretty sensational, in that nobody censored or deleted his posts. So definitely not "exactly what happened" here. The way I read it he was unhappy (with reason IMHO) with the voting response by a group of voters to his posts and decided it wasn't enjoyable to post the content he had previously enjoyed posting here and thus announced he was taking his ball (previously posted content) and going home as is his right. Fortunately the community rallied behind him or at least showed support of his post and the resulting discussion and he was shown some steem-y love, the best kind!

I agree with you. Bots and some users checks for the uniqueness of the content and it comes to paranoia. Why are we not free? If You are not a fan of borrowed materials then don't put the upvote and I'm not going to get a reward. What's the problem?
