A system crash is the last thing a programmer prays for. But, they do occur even during prototype building.
It is good to use online/offline repositories like git for code capturing (saving), to avoid loss of codes and various sorts of discomfort that could be associated with it. If you do not wish to use these repositories, remember to find a way to refractor your codes. Loss of codes could extensively slow down a project.
