How Much Rewards Do We Need to Reach the Trending Page?

Would you like to know how much rewards we need to reach the trending page on Steemit because this might be useful to estimate how much we would have to spend on bid bots?

How Much Rewards Do We Need to Reach the Trending Page?

I'm writing this post in response to a question from a reader. I welcome all questions that you may have and if I know the answer, I will make a post.

How Much Rewards Do We Need to Reach the Trending Page?

Today I received a question that I found very interesting to answer for all of you.

@carolynseymour asked: "Could you tell me how much money one needs to place on a good article to get it on the trending page?"

How Much Rewards Do We Need to Reach the Trending Page?

When she says, "how much money," she refers to how much should we spend on upvoting bid bots to make it to the trending page?

My answer is that this will vary depending on the topic of your article. Some topics are very competitive like "Steemit" and others much less, so the amount of upvotes you need to make it to the trending page can be very different.

You might even don't need to use bid bots if you have lots of people who upvote your posts every day to a decent amount. If the article receives organically $60 in rewards, this might be sufficient, if it needs a push, maybe a 20 SBD bid to a bot can put you on the trending page.

I looked at 3 articles in 3 different trending terms to compare them.

Trending: Food

Let's say you have a post about food, your latest recipe, and you want it to reach the trending page.

Let's go to the corresponding trending page: https://steemit.com/trending/food

The most recent trending post I see is Steem Cooking Show: Pineapple Dole and it has $145 on it. I can conclude that I need the same value on my post to make it on the trending page the same.

The problem is that I am a bit late, maybe the post made it to the trending page after 5 hours and only $100?

What I can do now is see if the author has used bid bots and who are the top upvoters.

Visit this site https://steemworld.org/@alphasteem, the last part of the URL being the username of the author.

Go to the "Recent Posts" section and look for the post.

There, you can see that it has 162 upvotes and that there are two big upvoters, which are not bots apparently.

If you look at the "Transfers" tab, it indicates "(0)" which means no payment has been made to promote that post by the author.

If you want to achieve the same results with your article, I believe you would need 72 SBD in bids to the bid bots, which is half of the total $145 rewards, assuming you get very little organically.

If you already get $20 on all of your posts, I would say that $125 in rewards from bots would be enough, which I estimate to 62 SBD.

The best strategy would be to start with 20 SBD, and then bid more on other bots until the post reaches the trending page.

Trending: Funny

This is another post trending for "Funny": A being from another dimension has moved into my house.

It is the most recent post I see which was made 18 hours ago. The age of the post is similar to the previous post, but only $105 put it on the trending page.

I can also say that it's already late, maybe it was trending at $70?

I use the same site to look at the data for this post: https://steemworld.org/@hanshotfirst

When we go to this post, we see 213 upvotes and 3 main upvoters that appear not to be bots.

If you look at the "Transfers" tab, it also indicates "(0)" which means no payment has been made to promote the post by the author.

If you want to achieve the same results with your article in the "Funny" category, I believe you would need 52 SBD in bids to the bid bots this time, which is less than the previous post.

If you already have $20 on your posts, I would estimate 42 SBD in bids then.

I would use the same strategy to progressively put bids until the post reaches the trending page.

Trending: Steemit

This is now the third post in the competitive trending category "Steemit": [State of Steem #104 📈 | Steem $1.59] / SBD [$1.24] | Alexa Ranking [1787] | Activity [No.1] | Total Accounts [1,048,239] | Daily Account Transacting [56,799] | Market Cap #35 [$417,156,428]

The most recent post is 22 hours old and it has $482 on it.

Maybe it was already trending at $300?

This is the same site again: https://steemworld.org/@reko

When we go to this post, we see 324 upvotes and 6 big upvoters that we can recognize as bots.

Notice that the "Transfers" tab indicates "(6)" which means that six payments have been made to promote the post by the author.

Click on the "Transfers" tab and you can now see what the six bots are and the corresponding payments to each of them.

How Much Rewards Do We Need to Reach the Trending Page?

A total 296 SBD was spent on this article.

This is an interesting example because it tells you how much was spent in bids on this post, which has already quite a lot of rewards organically.

According to what I said for the two previous posts, I would have evaluated the bids at $240 to reach the trending page.

The author might have used the method of progressively bidding because the first 5 bids* are very close in time, then seeing the post didn't make it to the trending page, they added a last one for 33 SBD six hours later.

It's not an exact science, I can't tell exactly what amount would be needed to reach the trending page, but I hope this helps you to estimate.

If you want to reach the global trending page for all tags, values are much higher and you could just use the same approach to see how much you would need to have in rewards, and how much to pay for bots.

I hope this makes sense.
