Bug or intended feature?

After looking around for a bit I can't find the answer to this question. I noticed that since the hard fork we can no longer comment on posts that are older than 7 days. No adding a new reply, no replying to existing comments. Was this change intended or is this a bug? I noticed that another user brought up the same issue in this post but there wasn't really any clarification offered.

After the marketing post came out yesterday stressing the importance of setting up communities here this is an issue that would have a major impact on whether or not they succeed. We need to be able to reply to posts and comments that are older than 7 days. You can't get meaningful discussion going, especially on niche topics, if someone needs to start a whole new thread just to address a previous comment. 

I really do hope that this is just a bug and it will be addressed sooner rather than later. @andrarchy @sneak anything you can add to help clarify this would be appreciated.
