Why Steemit is more than just a social media platform

in #steemit8 years ago

When people hear about Steemit, they think it is just a social media platform. At least, this is how Steemit is sold even by the owners of Steemit. But I was thinking about it today and actually Steemit is much more than a social media platform. Steemit is something new that the world has never seen before. Therefore, it is difficult for me to put a name on what Steemit is. So I will just try to describe how I view Steemit and maybe afterwards a name for it can be found.

I realized today Steemit is actually a global company. But a company that doesn't hire any employees. At the same time anyone that wants, is free to become a Steemit employee. Steemit also doesn't fire employees. If employees are not happy with Steemit, they can leave whenever they want. Steemit also doesn't put people in groups. It doesn't matter what ethnicity you are from, what sexual orientation you have, what history you have, ... everyone can work for Steemit and everyone gets equal opportunities. Steemit doesn't care how much hours a day its employees work. Steemit doesn't care how much time you fail or succeed. Steemit doesn't care what kind of work you deliver. Whether you make a video, or picture gallery, or write articles, Steemit just doesn't care. Steemit also doesn't care what topic you work on. Steemit doesn't pay fixed wages. Your wage is determined by the quality of your work. Steemit doesn't care at which location you work. And the list of what Steemit doesn't care about can go on and on.

It is actually quite remarkable to look at Steemit from this point of view. Steemit is actually a company providing ultimate freedom and flexibility for both itself as its employees. Maybe Steemit should be considered world's first global libertarian multinational.
