Holier than Thou

What is holier than thou? It is characterized by a moral superiority attitude or those who are overly critical but with a holier-than-thou approach. You can meet a lot of 'yeah but' people in real life but the holier-than-thou is more rampant in social media particularly Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook. They claim not to be trolling but are only presenting their so-called righteous argument or case to prove that they are right or to freely express their precious opinions.

Although there is nothing wrong with hearing or accepting different points of view, the holier-than-thou people just tend to be toxic lurkers and energy-suckers. They post off-topic messages in an online community with the main intent of provoking the reader into an emotional response to disrupt the normal on-topic discussion. The holier-than-thou people can be more subtle but deep inside, they can be angry and disruptive just like the mythological troll.

They will not stop proving their point with a series of rebuttals and worse they might even downgrade to the troll level. Unless you are matured enough to recognize that the internet has a lot of these people and that you can be a bigger person to ignore cyberspace toxicity, you too might even go down to their level and get sucked into their lifeless behind-the-computer-screen universe.

Winning an argument, especially online, only gives a temporary satisfaction. If you think long-term, this will only breed hidden contempt, a preparation for a future attack against the winner, whether this is your friend in real life or just someone you met online. Because most people are egotistical, it might come with old age, societal status or power that triggers this need to assert to be right and morally superior.

Probably due to Steemit's downvote, the number of holier-than-thou type people is quite minimal, so there is more positive vibe on personal blogs. I don't really understand why people waste their time on an article if they don't agree. And if they don't like it, there's no need to upvote either. But there are also those who psychopathically hide their true intentions or meaning by being condescending. If you don't have a clue of someone's personal experiences, why even bother?

Some people are pragmatic and have already made up their minds about issues relative to their experiences. Though they can still be open-minded to other people's opinions, it does not mean they will change anything in their lives overnight or patronize the holier-than-thou approach of some strangers on the internet.

It's a given thing that I am only likely to listen to my friends' advice and opinions or to anyone I know personally. The internet is full of people who have no idea about the real deal. The truth is, most people in the cyberspace wear masks and hide behind their anonymity. People are also more courageous to downright assert their need to be holier than thou. Because it's easy to upset other people and be a prick here. It's also easy to be anything you want to be.

Very nice way to tell about the human psychology. I consider myself a little bit pragmatic, may be the rules of the world that Survival for the fittest made me like this. You are right people hide their real face not only in internet but also in real life so the world is not a place where you can trust any way. People always try to make them self a Holy Cow as compare to you. So better to be remain in with you and keep chilling. All the best @diabolika

I think I am the same.

Yep. The world is chalk full of people who believe "their way is THE way." Our inability, or negligence, to consider other points of view, other ways of living, believing, acting, or feeling is a terrible disservice to both others and ourselves.

Have an open mind, and open heart, and live and let live, I say...

Thanks!

Very true and thankfully not much of an issues here on Steemit. I remember theses sorts all to much when I was on twiter just bombarding me with their views all the time against my tweets. They have no regard for anything other than their view. Once or twice I tried to engage in a conversation but they don't discuss just blert out negative rubbish. Thank goodness for Steem 💯🐒

That's why I stayed away from the mainstream social media. Thank goodness for Steem indeed!

Been clean of the Facebook dribble for 6 years now 💯🐒

Steemit is definitely a healthier platform than most for online posting. We all love your blog anyway :)

A truly sacred and wonderful place
Featured Photos I wish you all the best

I hope you don’t think I’m holy than thou. I enjoy your blogs and think your very talented. People probably do post shitty comments as a way to take out frustrations. People say shitty stuff to me, it can hurt to but never let it stop you or set you back or anything.

I don't think that! Thanks!

great story dear @diabolika. but very miss you.

I wholeheartedly agree @diabolika and it is ESPECIALLY prevalent on Facebook. That place is like a breeding ground for that type of individual.
