STEEMIT. HOW HEALTHY IS THE COMMUNITY. MY INSIGHTS FROM ONE MONTH. SEEING THE WOOD FROM THE TREES.

Hello everyone.

I was going to write this post later in the week but just have to get pen to paper. I love it here but there are problems. You can call it a community but you are kidding yourselves. I have divided Steemit into 5 groups. I will not name and shame but highlight what I have seen. It is obvious to some but the rest either don't care or are bots writing their material.

  1. Full time job. Some are treating it like a business and are generating massive incomes so much so I get the pool reward rape idea. These businesses are not botting but are upvoting with some big players backing them. Who knows those big players backing them could be the same person. These accounts will only get bigger and where will it end. They will never respond to a comment. These accounts are not community friendly.
  2. The ones that aren't quite a business as above but could actually be bigger than those in point 1. I will give one example, no names. This account has recently opened another account. How do I know? Within seconds of posting it is upvoted by the other account. No rocket science there. This new account is working they same way as the old account. By doing this it doesn't create waves and operates under the radar. I call this a subsidiary of the main account. Very clever but again not community friendly. Very rarely reply to a comment.
  3. The accounts that team up and upvote each other guaranteeing a nice pay for every post. Doesn't take much detective work to see this and is happening every single day. If you comment on their posts you will never get a reply as again they don't care. Also their votes are delegated out to their group so can't really reply and upvote. This is another type that doesn't care about the community.
  4. The genuine accounts that care. You read their posts and they reply and communicate with you. Most of them are fairly large but not necessarily. The have been on Steemit for over a year and care what happens. This is a rare breed on here. Community friendly and a pleasure to have around. This group makes it worthwhile and helps everyone grow.
  5. The new members. Unsure of what they are doing, confused by the big payouts and are chasing hidden gold. It's hidden because it is not easily found. They are learning the hard way and the drop out rate will be high. The ones that stay will be good for the community and welcome them with open arms.

There is probably a lot more going on here but this is what I have picked up over the last month. I do not have a wand that I can wave to fix this. The ones that have worked the system are doing nothing wrong. The rules allow it and until the rules change the reward pool will get less and less.

Resteemed. This needs to get out, and boy, no one could have said it better!

Thanks Cambridge. Just stating what I have seen. Not everyone can see it but this community is divided. Once you understand this you will ignore all the members who fall into the first 3 categories and support everyone else. Will be a them and us scenario. We need to stick together and support each other in order to thrive as a community.

Indeed. I think the new Hive Mind developments will halp; that way we can have more differently formatted communities; I see Steem platform based applications as message boards, video platforms, blogging interfaces like this, and so on. I think that having less on the blockchain and more performing syncronization with it will offer more options, hence if there become enough interfaces to the Steem blockchain run by the community, the "centralization" of the community as it currently stands will stop, or, we hope.

There are several other groups too who are trying to do what they think is community orientated but, again, getting to be rare. With the bots in the waters (the way they currently operate) there is not much hope to wrestle the majority of the pool back but, perhaps there are some tweaks that might help or at least could offer alternatives.

Thanks Taraz. Can't wait for the tweaks to help at least. Still busy with the bot experiment and show the results. Hopefully everyone can see they are a waste of time. This will only get worse as the value of Steem rises. Can you imagine the greed when it reaches $20/25 in value.

I have seen it at 7c (I wish I had realised at the time to buy) so, yes. I can imagine.
