What Makes Steemit So Popular
Today I wanted to dive into some real world case studies about steemit and why it still has massive potential for growth. However it does need some updates to make the information within easier to find and accessible here is where we stand today.
Overview
The most popular country using steemit is the USA with a rank of 3,058 and Global 4,296. What really matters to search engines however is the estimated time on site which is currently just over 5 minutes. This is about double the time spent on "news" sites such as CNN or CNBC which gives good credit to the site.
However you can see that the monthly visitors actually is not going up by much its a gradual steady increase but nothing massive.
Where They Come From
30% of the traffic is from steemit users where they directly go to steemit.com and login for the day.
10% From links such as found on blogs or other owned websites
Nearly 9% comes from social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc (rather low number) Perhaps we could do some training on this to help people understand how to use this method better?
1% Through email which I think is a great idea in which I might start
But the real kicker and what really fuels steemits growth that we need to be careful with is....
The all powerful SEARCH!
Over 50% of people coming from steemit are searching on google for something and end up landing on a steemit page. This is MASSIVE for marketers such as myself and I have not seen this type of result since my article marketing days years ago.
Where Are You
Some people think that steemit is getting over populated however if you look at this chart you can see who is using steemit and where we still have room for massive growth. If you are in one of these countries they you are PRIME to be a leader and really benefit from teaching people about it and how to use it effectively.
#Areas For Improvment
We can't rely to heavily on search engine rankings as Google does like to slap sites from time to time. Thus we could really improve traffic from social media and here is the top list so far.
Those 5% of you in the UK could really tap into the social network VK to push more traffic to your steemit posts.

I'm loving Steemit.
There is incentive to interact, there is incentive to create content. This is only the beginning of this platform. What I see when trying to share Steemit with others (particularly Facebook) is people doubting where the payment comes from, and how it is backed.
They just don't seem to be able to wrap their heads around the blockchain power that drives it.
With blockchain and steemit is like, MJ & Scottie.
I think more and more people are going to start to understand it better. However no one really understands how a credit card works other then you put the card in and some how it buys things that you later pay for lol
Great points. I came from Youtube and have been encouraging my fellow foodies to follow to Steemit. It is a great opportunity platform but admittedly confusing at times. It took me a while to figure Steemit out and I am still learning daily. It is a whole different world. I love it. I agree with the search and there could be other improvements on Steemit. The minnows need more opportunity to be recognized and discovered. It seems the minnow posts get "buried" really fast. Thanks for the post.
I found steemint.com from searching cryto's on youtube and stumble across a, social media well great thought out project. Credits to @nedscott pure genius.

This does happen but there are ways around it to be listed in the top trending a few times. Write a high quality post and then invest some promotion money into it include a vote bot or two this is how you stand out.
You make it sound easy @bitcoinflood Writing a high quality post and investing in promotion does not always equate to "standing out". I admit that I am in a high saturated category, food. I have making quality content and posting since June. Tried dtube. I have been commenting on posts in similar and different categories, whale and minnows. Have been reaching out to newbies in introducemyself. I have not been very "successful", actually hit and miss. A week ago I started using the bots and trying different tactics. I reach and peak and that is it. Not giving up, just trying to figure this all out.
I always said if its easy everyone would be doing it. Having a road blocker is a good thing it shows those committed to their success and investing in their success. A few posts in trending or hot will build up your following but also using your social media is a great way to build a following along with email marketing if you want to go down that road.
Nice post! I am from Bulgaria and here steemit is not popular at all. In fact there is a facebook group and we are only 83 members. I tell all my friends about steemit and some of them want to join the community! hope that steemit will keep on growing!
