Block Function: A Steemit Solution Perhaps?

in #steemit6 years ago

What if we had a block function here on Steemit?

People get to block whoever they want here on Steemit.

A person blocked has no way to visit the blocker's blog.

A person blocked can in no way, see a blocker's post, hence eliminating the possibility of voting or flagging it.

Tagging the blocker would also be useless.

We can also find ways to make it ambiguous instead, like how WhatsApp does it:

" If you see all of the indicators above for a contact, this could mean that the user is blocking you. However, there are other possibilities. We have made this intentionally ambiguous in order to protect your privacy when you block someone. Thus, we cannot tell you if you are being blocked by someone else."

Why? Because each person has his or her own individual right to privacy, no?

But yeah, something something decentralized and blockchain...

I know not the implications of a block function on the blockchain and how it'd affect everything...

I just think that a block function would definitely help people here who are being bullied and abused.

We have the right to protect ourselves.

That's all I have to say.

What do you all think? I'd love to know your thoughts.

In a self governance model like the STEEM blockchain having a block function wouldn't work because a spammer could block everyone who was potentially going to flag their post and wall themselves off and be out there abusing and trying to scam new users. An example of this is the @binance-exchange account which isn't actually Binance...... it is just a crack baby scammer

Was thinking something along the same lines...

Even if not for purposes of bypassing resistance to spam, people could use it as an escape route from avoiding the flags of heavy SP holders who might have other valid reasons to flag them as well.

Surely, some shady muthafuckaz could get pretty creative, utilizing bots to do stuff like plagerize content and then block all accounts who downvote them immediately, to workaround the consequences of their actions.

Interesting challenges, in these new decentralized systems...

Yeah it is very interesting for sure people's different strategies and how people view what is acceptable and what isn't.

Is he a scammer? He looks more like a noob trying to get his referral link in only.

That seems to be his main play but I saw him spamming the hell out of a bunch of people's posts and trying to pretend to be Binance. Luckily no one has sent STEEM to his wallet thinking it was the real exchanges account. People get really confused when sending funds around.

If you look at Steemit Inc wallet you can see a bunch of people try to send from Bittrex and actually put their keys in the memo. I'm sure they are confused as hell to where the money actually ended up.
