I Randomly Received 400+ Votes On My Post

in #steemit6 years ago

So this is a bit of a different post from my usual output, and it'll be a short one. I'll also be tagging it differently than usual since it concerns Steemit as a site rather than the niche I usually make my posts in. So hi, I blog about anime, but to most of the people who might see this that might be irrelevant and it's also irrelevant to this post. After waking up and taking a look at my latest Steemit post, which you can find here:

https://steemit.com/anime/@alberenza/caligula-episode-1-some-musings-about-otaku-culture-included

I discovered that despite the fact that (at the time) the post had less than 40 views, it had somehow managed to accrue over 400 upvotes, reach the top of anime trending, and make just over $50. I haven't been with Steemit for very long, but I don't think I've ever seen anything like this happen to other creators. Given how strange this is, I can imagine most people are going to assume that I paid some people or made some deals in exchange for these upvotes. I can't really stop you from thinking that, but I can promise that I haven't made deals with any of the people who upvoted me. All of the accounts seem to be legitimate, as upvote bots usually leave a comment I believe, although there was at least one account which somehow had a ton of followers but no posts or comments, which is highly suspect. I haven't really talked with many people on Steemit thus far, and typically most of my votes don't receive all that much attention. So while I was posting in hopes of getting a bit more exposure, getting so much so fast is more worrying to me than exciting. I feel like random posts blowing up is a normal occurrence on this site, but from my understanding, posts like that receive attention based on dealings behind closed doors. This is something that just kind of happened to me, all I did was write the post.

Given the view count and the singular human comment, it doesn't seem like as many as 400 people actually read the post. Again, prior to now, I was a small content creator who never received much attention, despite a few odd comments and votes here and there. It almost feels like a Monkey Paw's wish, since the end of the post expresses a sentiment for some more attention on the platform. It feels like this may come back to bite me later.

So, what do you guys think? I'm completely at a loss. I don't think most of these upvotes were legitimate, and while it's exciting to think that I may get some exposure and some money from this, if that post is just a random flash in the bag thing then I'm more worried than anything that something weird is going on. I don't think it's sustainable for a post to suddenly blow up like that, and slow and steady long time growth is what you want in the long run.

Probably it was curated by some curation guild. It'd be cool if it happens again. Personally I haven't faced something like that. But there is no such thing as too much of a good thing. Checked your last post. I think I'd pick up the anime eventually. So thanks for the recommendation. Resteemed!

It has me sightly worried still, but I suppose I'll just have to accept it for now. I hope this guild have good intentions, and that they aren't simply picking posts at random.

Thanks for the resteem, by the way! I'll be giving you a follow in return. I hope you enjoy Caligula.

They always make their picks based on the quality. Getting noticed is the hard part. So Congratz!

Hi @alberenza, I'd like to have you know that you got curied. Curie is a curation guild here on steemit meant to encourage users putting up awesome contents without getting much rewards.

Your post was deemed exceptional by a curator and submitted to the guild reviewers who agreed and upvoted you with a curie vote.

The other votes you see their belong to people following the curie curation trail, so that any vote curie upvotes, the rest do too, which is why you have such a hige payout and upvote no.

Keep putting up awesome contents,
Cheers,
Ras.

Thank you very much for letting me know! I would have very much appreciated this message sooner, since I felt like there was some kind of mistake or like someone was trying to get something from me in exchange for this massive boost. The silence from all the upvoters left me with some anxiety.

Knowing that all the Curie guild wanted is more content from me puts my mind at ease, and I will be sure to uphold your request going forward!

I'm still not quite through processing this, but I extend my thanks to you and the guild.

You're very welcome. Curie is working on leaving an automated comment on all the upvoted posts, so people become more aware. Keep improving your blog and this may just happen to you again.

Cheers,
Ras.
