The Great Wall of China, is the most remarkable wonder among the wonders of the world seven old and recent. It is the tallest building in history at all, with a length of about 6,400 square kilometers, and built entirely by hand.
It was first introduced in the fourth century BC and continued until the beginning of the seventeenth century.
The Chinese built the fence to protect their northern border from the invaders.
The fence stretches north China between the east coast and north-central China. Its eastern end is in Shanhaiguan, a village near Qinhuangdao City. In the west, it ends near the village of Jiayquan.
It is one of the most famous tourist sites in China and the whole world. Every year millions of people from all over the world visit it to see a prominent landmark in the history of human construction, which embodies man's intelligence and creative genius.
Historical records say that in the second century BC, the first Chinese Emperor Chen Shi Huang united the states and linked the border fences of the various states to the Great Wall of China.
Over 1,000 years later, the Great Wall of China was extended and restored in various covenants to thousands of kilometers.
The first parts of the wall were built in the Spring and Autumn period between 770 - 476 BC and during the Warring Kingdoms between 475 - 221 BC.
Badaling, which is located in Beijing's Yancheng County, about two hours by car from central Beijing, is the most famous sector among tourists and Chinese and foreign visitors to the fence. It has a length of 3741 meters, an average height of 8 meters, a height of up to 15 meters and a total length of 19,000 square meters.
This part of the wall of China was among the first parts officially opened for the visit.
Statistics show that some 130 million visitors, including 14 million foreigners, have visited this sector since its official opening in 1954, including heads of state, government, politicians, thinkers, public figures, literary, artistic and sports figures.
The late leader Mao Zedong said that "whoever did not climb (or not visit) the wall of China is not a real man."
This site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, 1987.
It is best to visit this famous tourist site from 7 am to 5:30 pm daily, and the fare is between 40 and 45 yuan (about 5-6 US dollars). The site is easily accessible by taxi or bus, many of which are from many yards and stations in Beijing with very low wages.
