A proposal to collectively promote Steem on Reddit.
Hello Steemates!
I hope you all are doing well. In this post, I present to you - a proposal to collectively promote Steem(it) on Reddit.
Reddit is already quite popular but for the users who are not yet familiar with Reddit, it's called The Front Page of the Internet and is quite similar to Steemit except, of course - there's no monetary incentive whatsoever. In fact, if you happened to have been introduced to Steemit by some article published on the web, it is very likely that Steemit was described to be a Reddit-like social network that rewards bloggers. There's also a Steem and Steemit sub-reddit.
The plan is to promote Steemit.com on Reddit. Yes, it's just a matter of making a post about Steemit and sharing its link on Reddit. That's it. It sounds quite easy but it's easier said than done. One person making a post and promoting Steemit has far less probability of succeeding than the entire Steemit community promoting the post. Steemit is a Reddit competitor and there are chances that Reddit will not treat a post about its competitor quite well. We've all heard stories about censorship on Reddit. However, the chances are worth taking.
Well, we all know that one doesn't simply hit the front page of the internet. The account from which the post is to be made needs to have high Karma and needs to be up-voted by many Redditors and that's why we need to try this collectively. One or two people trying it might not quite make an impact.
So, how exactly do you plan to promote it on Reddit "collectively"?
The plan is to make a good post about Steemit that communicates the message as simply as it can. It can be a short-video, a poster, a write-up or whatever the community comes to an agreement on what form would best express Steemit. Once we have the content, we can then schedule a time to make/share the post on Reddit such that majority of the Steemit users will be aware of the post and the timing. On the scheduled date and time, we can all put a small effort to upvote the post on Reddit. The more number of up-votes on the post, the more chances of the post doing well. A few redditors here with high Karma can help push the post higher up. If a good fraction of active Steemit users upvote the post, we have good chances of hitting the front page.

It's time to unite Steemit.
Yeah, unfortunately your collected karma there doesn't have more weight on upvotes.
But really good initiative, we could start out by using the subreddit more and promote that on reddit (since they are very much against promotion of any social media sites that take users out of reddit) but not against promoting subreddits. ^^

So, how do you suggest we go about promoting the subreddit?
I haven't had much time working on that lately, waiting for signups to be 100% open and functional again. Currently we have some users using IFTTT when posting there so its a little spammy, but some fun small time community posts combined through Steemit would be a good idea.
I'm also open to have more Steemians work together on shaping the subreddit up. Will make a post regarding that soon, hope you are interested to help out!

Ha, great idea. But in the meanwhile there is a waiting list going on here to become a member of STEEM. Maybe not so motivational to others who want to become a STEEM-member. A few of my friends are almost waiting a week now to get part of steem.
We could schedule the event after the problem is expected to be fixed.
