Hello everyone.. Welcome to the third week of the global cooking course. And this time we will make a very popular Chinese dish in the world. Now let's get started!!


Have you ever tried Chinese food? What Chinese food is available in your local places?

I once made a Chinese dish some time ago. The dish is called "Lo mein". This dish is made from noodles with a base of wheat flour. Then cooked with vegetables and usually added with meat and shrimp.

I like Chinese food because some of the ingredients used and the way of cooking are almost the same as our traditional dishes.

Some Chinese dishes that are available in my area for example DIM SUM, PANGSIT noodles, Peking Duck, Kwi Tiaw, and many others. The Chinese dishes that I mentioned are very popular dishes in Indonesia. The taste and texture are very much in accordance with our taste.

On this occasion I will make a very famous Chinese dish. I have chosen Kung Pao Chicken recipe as my favorite dish in this course.

  • 250 grams of boneless chicken.
  • 50 grams of peanuts, fried.
  • 50 grams of cauliflower.
  • 1 stalk of spring onion, chopped.
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce paste.
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced.
  • 2 cloves of garlic, thinly sliced.
  • 1 piece of ginger, thinly sliced.
  • 2 red chilies, sliced.
  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce.
  • 1 teaspoon of salt, flavoring and pepper powder.
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil.
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.

Preparation for chicken marinade:


  • Prepare a bowl, put in the chicken that has been cut into pieces.

  • Add salt, oyster sauce, soy sauce, pepper powder and flavoring.

  • Let stand for 30 minutes.

Cooking steps:


  • Prepare a frying pan, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.

  • Saute shallots and garlic, and add red chilies.

  • Add the marinated chicken, then saute until brown. Then add the ginger pieces.

  • Add 450 ml of water.

  • After boiling, add the tomato sauce and stir evenly.

  • Cook for about 15 minutes, then add the cauliflower and spring onions.

  • Then cook for 10 minutes or until the water reduces.

  • Finally, add the fried peanuts and add sesame oil.

I prepared this special dish for my family's dinner at home. My daughter really likes this Kung Pao Chicken recipe because it tastes delicious and very tasty.


What is your favorite family recipe from Chinese cuisine that you make by combining local species?

I often make dishes based on chicken. This is my family's favorite dish. Then I really like to use vegetables, ginger and soy sauce in my dishes. I think these ingredients are similar to Chinese cuisine.

In addition, I like dishes with a slightly spicy taste and have a strong aroma. So I often use chili and garlic in whatever I make, and this is also my favorite.

I think this recipe is almost the same as the ingredients and recipes that are often used in Chinese cuisine. And this will be a harmonious combination of Chinese cuisine with local cuisine in my area.


What difficulties did you face while making the recipe?

Actually, it is not too difficult to prepare this dish. However, I had a little difficulty when preparing all the ingredients. You can see that I have to prepare all the ingredients in large quantities. I have to go to the market to buy some ingredients because not all of them are available in the kitchen.

Then I have to be careful when marinating the chicken so that the results are good and cook faster when cooked. I think this is a bit more difficult than making local dishes that use simpler ingredients.

But I feel satisfied because I can complete all these tasks without facing too much difficulty.
