although this product idea was conceived a few years back now i had never heard of it and it was only from reading about it in a hackday project that i was turned on to it -- now that you can get a fairly fast version of the raspberry bi 3b+ it makes sense then to look into a modular synth that you can hack..
it's kinda crazy how long some of these things kinda take to bubble up before they become mainstream, sometimes it's just timing and when something is niche to people who play around in this area -- i've been seeing a bunch of raspberry pi midi open source platforms recently too so maybe it's just time in 2018 to bring that accessibility price down to the masses.
some of the main features that really pop out to me (you can find a bigger list on the website) are. .
- Multi-engine & multi-timbric architecture
- Audio Recording: You can record audio into the SD-card or a USB memory stick.
- supports cheap hardware -- raspberry pis
- great support for soundcards and touchscreens
Zynthian project is continously evolving and developing. They seem to be an active and growing community of music people looking to bring the price and access of music technology down.
