Getting The Media Exposure For Steem Fest - I Contacted Few Cryptocurrency News Sites.

in #steemfest7 years ago (edited)

I think that it is of paramount importance for Steem Fest to have an exposure cryptocurrency related media.

I have noticed that there has been not much of coverage of Steem Fest. If they don't write about it, this event may just pass unnoticed by those in crypto community who are not involved with Steemit platform.

Few hours ago, I decided to take an initiative and contacted few cryptocurrency news websites including two large newspapers.
I explained how unique event was about and asked if they would be interested in writing an article about it.
I contacted CoinDesk, CryptoCoinsNews, NewsBTC, Cointelegrah.
As well as Fortune and Wall Street Journal (they have their cryptocurrency sections).

So far, I have received a response from CoinDesk saying that they will write an article about it.

I'm probably not the best in writing formal and interesting emails but I tried my best (EDIT: I have just noticed the typo in "even", I'm sorry about it).
Lets see how it goes. I hope that other news sites will also be interested.

I wrote "social system" as that it is how I understand the direction of this technology and community. Especially, considering what Dan recently posted about.

Hang tight. I'm the one writing something for CoinDesk.

That's awesome!! :D @brianphobos said that he is going to write something for Cointelegraph too :-)

Great post and good work reaching out to the media outlets. I'm actually writing a piece about STEEM / STEEMIT for CoinTelegraph. Half of it is going to be about SteemFest and half of it is going to be about the upcoming hard fork and economic changes.

Awesome! You will take it even further :-)
Tbh, I did not expect such a positive response for this post. I was a bit afraid that I will get trashed for trying to reach these outlets myself.
Ned said that it is very good ht users take such initiative.

I know a few BTC editors, might want to talk about this. Any specialized links that can summarize the event?

I would check up Steem Fest blog for it.
For example, you can find there presentation recordings that were uploaded yesterday :-)

What a fantastic initiative by you! Can't believe you got a reply so fast too. Well done! :)

Thanks. Lets see how they follow with it :-)

Great initiative! It may indeed be good to invite some journalists the next time.

Totally agree! :-)

Brillant! Simply brillant!

Good job. Thanks for bringing the word out to more.

I'm glad you're doing this, but there should have been a robust, creative, professional media strategy that started weeks before the event. This should have been implemented by the leadership and fit into a broader marketing campaign aimed at growing the platform. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a promotional or marketing strategy to be found. Instead individual users are in the position of trying to spread the word about an event like SteemFest a week later.

Steemit, Inc. needs to get it together.

What a shame.

I think that you seem to be right about this point. I had been watching crypto news sites just before and during the event. I thought that there would be some articles about it. I was very surprised that there was nothing about it from important crypto news outlets. It seems that this marketing strategy has been a bit forgotten. I have no idea why because all the rest seemed to be organized to perfection (seriously, the level of event organisation was outstanding).
I tried to make up for it now but I am no professional PR person to pass through the information, so my attempt is rather amateur.

Fingers crossed for CoinDesk at least. Better late then never.

Thank you @bacchist I really love your insightful comment and although I totally agree with you that the campaign should have started weeks earlier and that Steemit inc should have most probably been involve, I feel like we all could have woken up to this fact and start this initiative and contact Steemit if we felt like it. We're all shareholders here. I don't think Steemit did this on purpose. It is rather doubtful and I feel like it isn't time for shaming one another but for each of us to take responsibility like @logic did! Hat tip to you @logic!

Yes, I don't think that it is anyone's fault. It has just been omitted accidentally. It is a good lesson fo the future. I'm sure that we will do it differently for Steem Fest 2 :-)
Ned said in chat today that it is great that we try to do start such initiatives, even if they are such amateur like mine. He mentioned that they prepared some press release and that CoinDesk was about to write about SF.

We should probably include in the budget tickets for reporters next time.
Great initiative.

You are so right! Inviting journalists from these sites would be an awesome way of promoting the event and bringing crypto scene closer to Steem.

WE are learning and already getting better for OUR next event!

That's right :-)

Great innitiative!
