RECONCILIATION SHOULD NOT MAKE YOU ACT FOOLISHLY

Few days ago, a friend introduced me to @steemchurch. I'm deeply grateful to all those behind this inspiring development. It has really added spice to my Christian life.

This evening, while reminiscing about the sad experience I had last week (you can read it Here). The Holy Spirit directed me to the Biblical story of Abner (Saul's captain) and Joab (David's captain).

According to the scriptures; even after Saul's death, there was still a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. In one of these wars, Asahel (Joab's brother) was killed by Abner (2 Samuel 2:17-23).

Saul's house grew weaker and weaker; Abner had to reconciled with David and gathered the entire Israel to him. In appreciation, King David organized a feast for Abner and his men, and sent them away in peace (2 Samuel 3:17-21).

However, Joab and his men came back from pursuing a troop and heard what the king had done. He was greatly disappointed, so he rushed after Abner. All these while, Joab was seeking for a perfect opportunity to avenge the death of his brother Asahel without the king knowing.

Unfortunately, Abner lost guard because of reconciliation. He stopped seeing Joab as a potential enemy, but as a friend. That is why he didn't hesitate to follow Joab into the inner chamber where he was killed (2 Samuel 3:21-27).

While mourning the death of Abner, King David said, "died Abner as a fool dieth" (2 Samuel 3:33 KJV). Sadly, most Christians still make similar mistake.

As humans, reconciliation is very vital. This is because, as long as we are in the world, we'll either offend others or be offended (intentionally or unintentionally). But it is important to adhere to what the scripture says in Matthew 10:16. "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves" KJV.

God bless you!

Sort:

so true. :) forgiveness is really divine as they say. It's so easy to say that someone is forgiven but deep inside we still harbor that feeling of anger for whatever the other person has done.

You're right. Thanks for reading.
