Who is a leader?

A leader can be said to be someone who guides/conduct or direct a group of people. He is a person in the position of authority.
Now we need to understand the fact that in as much as a leader is in a position of authority, it doesnt give him the power to ride others or coerce them to abide by his rules or decision especially A SERVANT LEADER.

For those of us who did government as a subject or course in school, we were taught that there are different types of leadership or leaders or let me say different leadership styles but I can say the best style of leadership we can apply as believers is the SERVANT LEADERSHIP STYLE which Jesus also applied.

WHO IS A SERVANT LEADER?

● A servant leader is one who understands that his authority in tha position is not to be used against his followers but for his followers.
● A servant leader is one who understands that the position of leading is for service and not an opportunity to override his followers.
● A servant leader is one who understands that it's a privilege for him to lead and serve others and not see it that he worked for it or deserved it.
● A servant leader is one who understands the difference between discipline and punishment.
And above all a SERVANT LEADER understands that he must be a good example to those who follow him and look up to him. I must say the position of a leader is a very technical one that if you are not careful you will end up causing other people to fall without realizing it.
The position of authority is one which requires you to tread softly as you don't know who is watching you.
Many leaders even have what they call ghost followers just like we have ghost readers now. This followers are closely watching your lifestyle, imitating what you do, taking note of some steps you take and so on, so if you lead them astray because you have failed to be a good example then you have failed as a leader that you thought you were.
A leader must stay conscious of the fact that he is being watched therefore his conduct anywhere he finds himself is very important. What words do you say as a leader? How do you dress as a leader? How do you relate with people as a leader? What do you watch and listen to as a leader? What do you read as a leader? This and many more are very important factors we should take note and be careful about.

Now, WHO IS AN EXEMPLARY LEADER?

● An exemplary leader is one who understands that he must stand as a good standard and role model to his followers
● An exemplary leader is one who doesn't do teach or guide his followers to the right path but is also a doer of what he teaches.

I have come to realize that many leaders are nothing but leaders by words and not by acts. They only tell you what to do and the right thing to do when they are not doers.
Jesus was a perfect example of a leader who used the SERVANT LEADERSHIP STYLE and he was also a perfect example of a leader who was an *EXEMPLARY LEADER. The Bible says and Jesus began to do and to teach...

Acts 1:1

The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

Which !means as a leader there is a need for you to even first do whatever you want to teach others to do first before you teach them, so that you can teach them with no barrier of guilty conscience in our heart.
You know there are times that you might be taking some teaching and in your heart you will be like chaii I am guilty o and even a times the guilt will not allow you say something's you were supposed to say. So it's very important that we as leader be not just sayers but doers....

IN CONCLUSION

Let your life style portray that of a leader that you are, aome of us some people will see us and mistake us for touts, prostitute or unbelievers because we dont portray what we claim to be and above all let Jesus be your overall standard of measure. Follow his guide/conduct/direction and I am sure you yourself will be transformed to a perfect EXEMPLARY LEADER.
