THE ORIGIN AND FALL OF EVIL SPIRITS Part 10 ( DELIVERING A DEMONIC OPPRESSION VICTIM)

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Acts 10:38 (NLT)

To understand the levels of demonic operation and their attendant symptoms is necessary, especially for those who are already in deliverance ministry, because, it would help them to be more focused while praying are delivering a victim.

However, in this post, our focus will be on how to conduct deliverance on those who are already victims.

But before I go on, I would like to state here that Satan and demons are under God’s control. They cannot act nor do more than the limit God has permitted them.

The first place we read of a demon taking possession of man is in 1Sam. 16:14:23; (and it was Saul the first king in Israel).

This was a spirit of oppression and confusion. As long as this spirit oppressed Saul, he could not execute his function as a king effectively.

In the New Testament, we see Christ and his disciples casting out demons (Luke 9:19, 10, 17). In the book of Acts, we see the apostles Peter, Philip the Evangelist and Paul having encounters with demonic forces, (Acts 5:16; 8:7; 16:18-19).

If you examine the biography of these men you will see that they were not extraordinary men. Peter for example was an ordinary fisherman, Philip was chosen as a food bearer. Paul was a converted Jew. What gave them power was the anointing, they all received at salvation. It takes this anointing to cast out demons (Isaiah 10:27).

This anointing is released on us by the presence of the Holy Spirit who is in us, when we received Christ as our Lord and Savior after believing the gospel. And Jesus said:

all who believe in Him shall cast out demons in His name (1 Jn. 2:27; Mark 16:17-18).

Therefore, do not look down on yourself if you are a child of God. You have what it takes to cast out demons. You are Christ’s disciple by virtue of your salvation.

Now, for you to help those who are suffering from demonic attacks here are some of the things you should do:

a. You must make sure you are a Christian, free from sin, living a holy life, to avoid being harassed by those demons.

“Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them who had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, we adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preached. And there were seven sons of one sceva, a Jew and chief of the priests who do so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was, leaped on them and overcome them and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded (Acts 19:13-16).

You cannot prevail over Satan or demons except you have Jesus living in you, because demons will only submit when they see Jesus in you. Therefore to avoid risking your life, get saved and establish a relationship with Jesus the only one who defeated Satan on His cross.

b. Spend time to counsel your client in order to find out the cause of the sickness or problem. If he cannot speak ask his close relation and find out the cause of the problem. Most problems prove stubborn until the root cause is discovered. Like I said before, seek the enablement of discernment Spirit

Jesus did the same during His time as we can see in this passage,

“And he asked his father, how long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, of a child. And often time it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him …” Mark 9:21-22.

Through counseling you will find out whether your client is being manipulated, oppressed or possessed.

c. You should pray for the ability to discern spirits. This will help you to know the source of the spirit (1 Jn. 4:1).

Knowing the types and sources of the spirits will enable you direct your prayers accordingly and save you time and energy.

d. At times you may be led to pray, but it should not be always. Mark 9:28-29;

In a serious case, fasting is necessary to enable you flow in the spirit and become more sensitive in dealing with such situation.

e. To deal with demons, it is at times good to have a team of two or more persons. This will help to generate courage and forcefulness. Deut. 32:30; here the Bible talks of one chasing a 1000, while two chase 10,000. Can you imagine the difference a team of just two persons can make?

f. Do not always cast out demons in public, unless you are led by the spirit to do so. Take the person to a private place.

g. Do not lay hands upon the demon oppressed or possessed person unless you are led to do so. This is to avoid contacting the demon into your own life. Start with praises and worship; for demons may resist prayer but not praises to God (1 Samuel 16:23). Pray to God for the deliverance of the victim. Speak to the spirit; you can ask his name and his destination and mission in the life of his victim, especially if you are led to do so.

h. Then command him to come out before binding him. Be in the spirit while conducting any deliverance; this will help you to discern every action the person will display and respond appropriately.

Before the prayer plead the blood of Jesus for self protection. Use the name of Jesus when commanding and casting out the demons.

If you are working with a team during the time of deliverance, one person should lead, while others will follow. No demon is ready to obey a confused command, and so you will never cast him out of the person except you make your demands clear to him.
