I want to dedicate this publication to an illustrious Venezuelan compatriot, who, although deceased, was and is an example of: citizen, professional, doctor and scientist, devoted Christian, charitable, kind, university professor in medicine, good Samaritan, charismatic, humble and wonderful person who had the honor of knowing him, treating him and having been a patient of such an illustrious person.

My intention is that they know their humble but important traces that left important marks in the medicine of our country Venezuela in its time and of course with repercussions in the actuality, in addition I want to emphasize its great kindness and dedication to its medicine profession and where I help to their patients, not only attending them in their homes but buying them the medicines they needed without charging them knowing that they did not have the resources to pay for their personalized attention to those who could not go to their office, likewise in their office they did not charge those who did not have and to those who had the financial means, he charged them by placing a container or container so that they paid at their free disposition and with it he bought medicines for his less favored patients, in order to cure them and fulfill his most sacred oath of his profession: to heal.

A man very devoted to God, and even tried twice to be a priest and to serve God completely, but his health condition did not allow it, that is, God, in my opinion, gave him his path, mission and path to serve him as he was that of medicine, many called him among other nicknames: The Faithful Servant of God.

Below I detail more about this illustrious Venezuelan, and thus know their devotion to God through their profession:
José Gregorio Hernandez was born in Isnotú, Trujillo state. Study first letters in his hometown and then moved to Caracas to study in the Villegas College, graduating Bachelor of Philosophy in 1884. He studied Medicine, graduating in 1888. He presented his thesis: The doctrine of Laennec and Typhoid in Caracas ", both related to bacterial diseases, a field in which it will focus its medical profession. He is considered the founder of the bacteriology in Venezuela.

He moved to his native land to rural medicine, where he received the news that he received a scholarship to study in Paris, microscopy studies, Bacteriology, Histology and Experimental Physiology. Returns from Europe in 1991 and founded the Institute of Experimental Medicine, Laboratory of Vargas Hospital and several departments of Medicine, including Normal and Pathological Histology; Experimental Physiology and Bacteriology. This was the first to be founded in America, promoting the renewal and progress of venezuelan science. Perfected the use of the microscope. In 1904 he enters like Individual of Number of the National Academy of Medicine as one of its founders, chair XXVIII. In 1909 he waives its work in Venezuela and moved to Italy, to enter the Carthusian monastery, as Fray Marcelo. His physical condition does return to their professional, educational and academic activities in Venezuela. In 1914 returns to Rome, entered the seminary, but must return again for symptoms of tuberculosis. He continued his academic and teaching work until 1919, when he died in a traffic accident. During the 23 years that effectively exerted university teaching, delivered a total of 32 courses on subjects within its competence, attended by 694 students.

Beautiful analytical synthesis of a personality of exception, conceived and expressed within the complex simplicity.

Dr. José Gregorio Hernández was an essentially authentic individual, who lived his life according to his principles and beliefs, who did not care what "they will say", who was an obedient and respectful son; a cheerful young man, who, according to his letters, liked to go to parties and dance, and in his missives he asked about his numerous friends, referring to some as "his weak point"; a student of great performance and respectful with his teachers and professors; a good friend, demonstrated when reviewing the content of epistolary exchanges with several contemporaries; a doctor who understood this profession, as a delivery for vocation of love and service to the sick; a curious, disciplined and passionate researcher, motivated by his desire to know more about diseases, in order to be a better doctor; an exceptional teacher, whom all the students appreciated and respected; an affectionate family member, and careful and protective towards his own, as with his brothers and particularly with his half brother, José Benigno and his nephews, José Temístocles and Inocente, when they came to Caracas to study high school and then medicine; a man of great spirituality, and mysticism, who led him on two occasions to try religious life.

It would only be to ask, would not the world be different, if we had more authentic people? How can one not be moved by so many expressions of affection and recognition by individuals of the highest academic and professional level, even the humble admiration of the dispossessed? Can you be indifferent to the figure of this exceptional character? How not to feel admiration for an individual capable of awakening feelings of recognition and respect, to citizens of all social strata and all levels of culture and education? He was essentially a human being and was called José Gregorio Hernández! How not to feel committed to being good people? How not to understand medicine, being a doctor, in its bioethical context, especially in its principles of beneficence and nonmaleficence? In broad strokes and with crude brushstrokes, a layman like me, I have tried to present a schematic and succinct sketch of the person and personality of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros; who lived surrounded by the appreciation, respect and affection of colleagues, disciples, friends and patients and died, leaving behind a limpid wake of imperishable remembrance.
He spoke English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, he mastered Latin, he was a musician, a philosopher, and possessed profound knowledge of theology.

The source of this information

Dr. José Gregorio Hernández is, without a doubt, the most outstanding figure of the Venezuelan twentieth century. An outstanding scientist and an exemplary Christian, Dr. Hernández knew how to combine his activity as a doctor, teacher and researcher with the deepest charity and attitude of service to everyone, especially the poorest.

The doctor left the pharmacy after buying some medicines for a patient, then he was surprised by the car that hit him and death occurred due to fracturing the base of the skull.

My intention with this publication is to show who did not know his legacy that I leave in my country Venezuela and who knows of him, a reminder, of his traces as good: Venezuelan citizen, Samaritan, doctor, Christian, professor, scientist and person who It was.

Sort:

Many people discovered their purposes for which they are known today, we know little about their struggles but, it always requires effort and sacrifice to reach the goal and leave a legacy. God bless you @msmm1964
