SteemChurch: How to deepen our relationship with God

In the course of time many noble people want to have or find a close relationship with God, but they are blocked by what they believe or perceive as the silence of God, that is, we often want God to act at the time we want, but God does not work in this way, he has his time and time.

This refers, without knowing it many times, to that we would like the Lord to do something dramatic in our lives, something that shows his credentials. But, typically, God does not work that way. He is not in the theater business. God wants to be loved and even, in that sense, "courted": which means that we can not be passive partners in the relationship. We need to seek God as the lovers would.

We are going to see some suggestions that can help us get closer to God, they do not have any specific order:

Let's start by listening.

As a Christian I have the desire to please God, I depend on his guidance and his advice. But how can I find it? How can I hear the voice of God? I know that God speaks to me every day, but as I can hear it.

How is my relationship with God? Do I have a sincere desire to please God with my thoughts, my words and my deeds? If I have this longing, my ear opens to hear his voice. I never heard the voice of God in the same way people around me talk, but I know that God speaks to me every day.

A story of the prophet Elijah is a good illustration of how God speaks to us in the heart. When the word of God came to Elijah and told him to stand on the mountain before Jehovah, God was not in the mighty wind that broke the mountains and broke the rocks, neither was he in the earthquake nor in the fire. After the fire Elijah listened to God "in a gentle and delicate whistle".

1 Kings 19: 11-12
11 Jehovah said to him, At that time the LORD was passing by, and a great and mighty wind broke the mountains and broke the rocks before the Lord; but Jehovah was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake; but Jehovah was not in the earthquake.
12 After the earthquake there was a fire; but Jehovah was not in the fire. And after the fire a gentle and delicate whistle was heard.

If we want to be close to God we have to be ready and willing to obey his will. We have to be close to be able to listen. If we have a position of enmity with respect to the commandments of God, then we will remain distant. "He who has an ear, let him hear." If I listen, I receive food from God for my spirit, and in this way I can also be of help to others around me. This is a really nice life for God.

We must look for Humility.

Humility is the beginning of sanity and a quality that every believer in Christ must possess, is a characteristic of the soul that prepares us to have faith. Many people praise the virtue of humility and consider it a beautiful jewel. God commands the saints to humble themselves "under the mighty hand of God" (1 Peter 5.6), to dress in humility (Colossians 3.12), to put on humility (1 Peter 5: 5) and walk with humility (Ephesians 4.1 -2). It is very true that humility is carried in the heart. Humility is the precursor of true exaltation, but we should not worry about when and how we will be exalted. God will take care of that. What is up to us is to continue in humility, trust in God, obey his word, stand at the foot of the cross and remember that the promises of God to the humble are safe.

We must bear in mind the contrast between pride (considering oneself superior to others) and humility (recognizing that we are unworthy) is presented in Luke 18.9-14. The Pharisee who exalted himself did not obtain favor from God, while the publican who confessed to be a sinner attained mercy. God always condemns pride, but always approves humility. The humble life is guided by the Spirit and God listens to the humble of heart.

Cultivate honesty.

Complete honesty is only possible for the humble man. The reason is simple. The most important and painful honesty is telling the truth to ourselves about our motives and our actions. The reason why honesty is such a powerful magnet is because it is so unusual because modern life is so built on the marketing of half truths and lies about who we are and what we deserve.

Honesty is not the best policy, but the only one, and that which distinguishes the man or woman who lives in the presence of God. David writes:

Psalm 15: 1-2
Those who will live in the holy mountain of God
1 Jehovah, who will dwell in your Tabernacle?
Who will dwell on your holy mountain?
2 He who walks in integrity and does righteousness;
he who speaks truth in his heart;

Scripture praises honest women and men because they are like clean air in a room full of smoke. Honesty allows the mind to breathe and think clearly.

Search to be in holiness.

Holiness is the habit of seeking according to our thoughts and actions the ways of God. To live in holiness is when we honor God in everything we do, in the simplest details of daily life. It is when we strive to please God with our attitudes, our words, our way of being, our character and our thoughts.

Holiness means being "something else", that is what the Scripture means when it tells us that we are "in the world without being of the world". And that does not happen miraculously. We need to choose to seek holiness.

Pray:

Prayer is much more than just that part of the day in which we remind God of what we need and what He must do for us, what we ask for. True prayer is more in listening and intimately linked to obedience. God certainly wants to hear what we need and love and fear, because these things are part of our daily life, and He loves us, but if we speak we can not listen. We have to keep in mind that we can not truly pray without humility. Why? Because prayer requires that we elevate all that we are and all that we experience and possess towards God; and pride is too heavy to be elevated.

Read the Word of God

The Scripture is the living Word of God. When we read the Word of God, we find God himself. The word of God is the spiritual food par excellence.

The Word of God teaches that not only must we nourish the physical body, but also our inner being needs to be nourished. But the food that our inner being needs is different from the physical one, which enters through the mouth, because the spiritual food has to enter through the ear.

Just as our physical body requires good food, so our inner being needs to feed properly. If we do not eat at our times we begin to faint and we are not ready for the demanding challenges that everyday life presents us with.

Believe and Act

Acting in faith means carrying out what we need to achieve what is expected, is living according to what we confess. The person who believes is different from the unbeliever in that their faith is strong, firm and always shows signs of it.

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say to you, whatever you ask praying, believe that you will receive it, and it will come to you.

We must bear in mind that it is not only expressing what we believe, it is believing and giving evidence of faith. The word says that faith without works is dead. James 2:17.

God does not do anything by chance. Everything is perfect in His will. If there is faith, manifest the power from on high. There are no limits. Everything is possible. It is enough to believe.
If we can believe the glory we will see. Amen.

Bring the Gospel to all people

Mark 16:15
15 And he said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

We were called to the glory of God with a purpose, which is to preach the gospel, every son of God must preach the wonders of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2: 9), to preach from the sacrifice made by Jesus on the cross of Calvary.

The main purpose of preaching the gospel, to bring good news to all people, is for the world to realize the love of God, to know that God loves them and that he has great things for everyone who decides to follow him; we can not silence that wonderful truth, the Lord tells us in his word that we go for the afflicted souls and that we present to them the plan of salvation of God through his son Jesus Christ.

If we sincerely seek the truth, if we desire the greatest things that this life has to offer, and if we open our hearts to the possibility of God: then one day we will believe, just as when we choose to love someone more deeply and we turn our Sincerely heart to that task, then sooner or later it will be done.
