Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

James 4:8b Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

I have never set my face and heart towards heaven without having a meeting with the Divine. God is not way out in space and removed from our lives and even the small, seemingly insignificant details of our life. If we have been born again, He is our Daddy. Not like many earthly fathers that are nowhere to be found. But He is near! He is the lover of our soul! He wants an encounter with us, more than we want to be with Him. He has provided a way. Jesus Christ.

When we encounter God, we encounter and experience His Love.

I think it is noteworthy, when Moses asked a God to show him his glory, God His Moses with His hand and declared His Name as He went by. Glory means the manifest presence of God! Glory is the weight of God’s presence. God is everywhere, but at times he concentrates His presence near His People. This is an Encounter with God.

As God passed by Moses, God declared His Own Name or Who He Is.

Exo 34:5 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.
Exo 34:6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
Exo 34:7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,

An Encounter with God will come with a revelation of Who He is.

An Encounter with God and you will have a revelation and experience of His Love. (This Love May include His discipline).

The religious will not have this encounter
The proud are not going to see God
Living in rebellion or sin will keep us from meeting God.
If you just want God for what He provides, not just for Him.

When we turn to God with humility, when we repent of the things mentioned above. We set our hearts toward heaven and make Jesus our One and Only Desire.

Get ready! He will meet you!

How He comes is up to Him!

Could be a vision or dream! You could experience His Glory where He reveals something new about Himself.

A few times during a church service, I could hear a lament of the Heavenly Father. “So many that just want something from Me”. “If My People would only want Me”.

Psa 73:25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
Psa 73:26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Psa 73:27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
Psa 73:28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

Our text. We can see this drawing near to God requires repentance.

Jas 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Jas 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Jas 4:5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Jas 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Is our desire for what we can get from Him, or do we want ONE. Our One desire Jesus?

Joh 12:20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
Joh 12:21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

“Sir, we would see Jesus!”

God has made a way! But we have to choose to have an encounter with Him!

Many times I have set my heart to have an encounter with the Divine through Jesus Christ. The preparation was getting my heart to the point of only wanting Him. There was an act of faith and determination, that I would continue in prayer, devotion, study, sometimes fasting, along with a resolve, not to stop until I had an encounter with God.

Set your heart towards Him and He will meet you!
