Divine Encounter Part 17 Put away Anger

Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

If we grieve the Holy Spirit, we forfeit His ministry in our lives.

I focused the last three teachings on bitterness and the necessity for us to forgive. I will leave a link for each as it is of utmost importance to our spiritual health. So many of us would brush this subject to the side, but many of the same people have this issue and won’t face it or don’t realize it. When the name of a certain person is mentioned we get upset or we do everything to avoid a certain person. We always have something sarcastic to say. Note: The person that is a physical threat, we need to forgive. That forgiveness does not give them opportunity to hurt us again. We force these out of our life for our safety and of those we love

Today we are going to look at anger and wrath.

Anger can be internalized and expressed in many ways, even becoming very quiet.
Wrath is being angry to the point it become demonstrative.
Wrath is anger acted out.

We can see from our text that anger and wrath grieve the Holy Spirit.

This is a strange place to be. We actually need the Holy Spirit to help us with anger and wrath, but we forfeit His help by living in anger and wrath. I have found, at this point He will help us only with this. As we deal with the wrath and anger in our life, then we begin again to benefit from the rest of His ministry in our lives.

Cause of Anger and Wrath

Do you easily get irritated and angry with people?

You see man is made in God’s own image. Many times when we get angry and especially when the anger turns to wrath. Wrath is when your anger is acted out. We go on a tirade and we may even become physical and hurt people, even people we love..

Let’s look at the first brothers

Cain was angry with God and rose up and killed his brother Abel.
Angry with God!
Attack that which is made in His Image.

Heb 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

In this story, God accepted the sacrifice of Abel and rejected that of Cain.

Gen 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
Gen 4:6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

He was so angry that even the way he looked changed.

Gen 4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

Cain was not angry with his brother, but angry with God. He was jealous of his brother, angry with God.
Right after God did not accept the sacrifice of Cain, Cain went directly and killed his brother.

Anger and especially wrath ruins our Christian witness. If not dealt with this will surely lead us to trouble.

According to our text, we are to put away these things that grieve the Holy Spirit. Eph 4:31.

It is our responsibility to deal with this! The implied you of the English language. You put away anger and wrath with all malice. You stop grieving the Holy Spirit.

As with any approach to God we have to be humble.
There is a possibility that the devil has a foothold in your life. There may be a demonic influence in your life.
Doors that open our lives to the demonic.

  • The occult, fortune tellers, horoscopes, Oija Board, in the Philippines, Quack Doctor.
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Constant rebellion against God’s Word.

This is what causes the countenance to change.

Most would never admit to have a demonic influence. This pride will keep us from full victory over this area of our lives.

This is a hard word for many.
I will end this installment on “An Encounter with Christ”

The goal is to really be ready to meet Him. We have to prepare ourselves. He wants this Encounter. Do you?

God bless!
