Hebrews 2:1-8

God want us to know that disobedience to His word attracts great punishment. Likewise, disobedience too the word from the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who is higher than angels and at the same time head of all things will not go unpunished. Rejecting Christ is rejecting salvation, which is the only way of escaping eterna damnation. Therefore, believers must do everything not to allow thier salvation to slip from them. Sinners must accept Christ as Lord and Saviour and be saved. It is damnable to neglect God's great salvation.

DAMNABLE EFFECT OF DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD'S WORD
Hebrews 2:1,2; Genesis 19:15-26; Judges 13: 3-5; 16:17-30; 2 Thessalonians 2:8

God is God of love. It is not His pleasure for any soul to be damned. Therefore, we are warned to take heed to what we have learnt.

To take heed means to pay proper attention and guide jealously all the words of God that we have learnt. The word of God is God's instruction to us and they are meant to guide us throughout our journey from earth to heaven. Through it, we learn about how to be saved, which is repentance from sin and faith in the atoning blood of Jesus Christ and necessity of purity of heart without which no man shall see the Lord. Also, it helps us to continue in the Lord, because he that endures to the end shall be saved. We are to esteem it above all things. The word of God must regulate our words, walk, actions and inactions. The writer of the epistle did not fail to tell us the consequences of failure to take heed.

When one recieves the word of God and acts on it as expected by God, there will be a transformation of life in him/her. However, as time passes by, he or she may begin to trivialise it because of pressures of life, carnal application, influence of modern-day pervasions and demand for easy walk with God. In other to keep the word, born again youths must be careful how they live and what they do.

To keep the word of God, we must read it constantly, meditate on it, pray for God's enabling power to carry it out and allow it to moderate our total being. If we do these, it will not slip away. From the beginning of the world, disobedience to God's instruction attracts punishment. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they were punished; likewise those who disobeyed instruction that God sent through his angel.

God does not take disobedience to his word lightly.Whether it was sent through angels or His servants, there are consequences for disobedience. Lot and his family were instructed not to look back afther they had escaped form Sodom but Lot's wife disobeyed and turned to a pillar of salt. Christians should know that there is reward for disobedience. Sinners and backsliders will not go unpunished unless they repent.

DANGER OF NEGLECTIONG THE GREAT SALVATION

From the beginning of the world, God's desire for man is to be saved. This made Him to manifest His love by relating directly with man in the garden of Eden. He also sent his angels and prophets to guide man in the way of salvation by given them laws and commandments. Finally, He sent His Son to make the supreme sacrifice for our sin. Jesus Christ did not only show us the way of salvation, He paid for it and gives us the grace to obey God. The salvation that we have from God is a great one.
The salvation we have through Jesus is great because of

1. the Author: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the author of our salvation
2. the price: Jesus paid the supreme price of our salvation.
3. Benefits: Through this salvation, we have both present and eternal benefits such as deliverance from sin and its consequences, access to the throne of grace, victory over works of the devil and dominion over Satan and his cohort.
   4.witnesses: The witnesses confirm the greatness to salvation.
4. consequences of neglecting it are both temporal and eternal.
   Those who reject God's great salvation will regret in this world and in eternity. Rejecting salvation means failure to allow the word of God to have transforming effect in one's life. There are many things that can lead to neglect of salvation such as being occupied with legitimate things that can lead to neglect of salvation such as being occupied with legitimate things and lacking time for things of eternal value (Luke 14:15-24); procastination of salvation till later date (Acts 24:25); and assumption that riches or success is an indication of God's acceptance. Also, many Christians think that regularity in church service, church activities, fasting or believing there is God means that one is saved. To be saved, a sinner must acknowledge his sinfulness (Romans 3:23) desire to be free from it, repent (Acts 2: 38) and confess all known sins (Proverbs 28:13), accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour (Romans 10: 9,10), turn away from all sins and continue in the way of the Lord. This is the only way to escape the danger of neglecting great salvation. Do not postpone your day of salvation. Repent
