In his vision of Revelation 19: 7-10, John saw and heard the voice of a great heavenly host, praising God because a feast of the marriage of the lamb-literally a wedding supper-is about to begin. Wedding dinner is best understood in light of the custom that was followed at weddings during the time of Christ.

This custom regarding weddings had three main stages:

First: A marriage contract was signed by the parents of the bride and groom, and the parents of the bride paid a dowry to the bridegroom or their parents. This gave beginning to those who called the period of the betrothal. that now we know as the commitment. This period was in which Jose and Maria were when it was found that she was pregnant (Matthew 1: 18, Luke 2: 5)

The second stage: In the process it usually happened a year later, when the boyfriend, accompanied by his male friends, went to the house of the bride at midnight, creating a parade with torches that went through him. The girlfriend knew anticipation that this was going to happen, so she was ready with her maidens, and all of them joined the parade that ended at the groom's house. This custom is the basis of the parable of ten virgins in Matthew 25.1-13

The third phase: It was the wedding dinner itself, which could last for days as illustrated at the wedding at Cana in John 2.1

What describes the vision of John in Revelation is the celebration of the marriage of the lamb Jesus Christ and his bride (The church) in its third face. The implication is that the first two faces have already occurred. The first face was fulfilled on earth when each believer put his faith in Christ as Savior

REFLECTION:

On earth, the wife announces the death of the Lord by taking part in the Lord's Supper. But at the wedding feast, the one he will contemplate at his side will be the lamb ... known before the foundation of the world.
