¿Why we say Amen?

in #steemchurch6 years ago

The word "Amen" is found for the first time in the first book of the Chronicles:
Praise the Lord because he is good. Because his mercy is eternal. Say: Save us, Lord, our God, and gather us from among the nations, in order to celebrate your holy name and have our glory in praising you. Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, forever and ever: Let all the people say: Amen. Hallelujah. All the people answered "Amen" and praised Yahweh. (1 Chron 16, 34-36).

I was curious recently to count the times we use the word "Amen" either in our language with God or in our prayers that always end with that old word. I realized that there are many times we use it, but what does it mean? Where does it come from? When to say it?

Amen is an Aramaic word, of the language that Jesus spoke, and means strength, firmness, solidity, stability, duration, credibility, fidelity, total security ... And it is usually translated as "SO BE."

In the times of the Bible when speaking in Aramaic, if a man said "Amen" he meant that he spoke with seriousness. It was almost an oath.

Since children have been taught that when we finish a sentence say Amen, in doing so we are asking God that what he says and implies that prayer a reality in every aspect of our lives.

But it is not so simple, we must be aware of what we are saying when we repeat it so much. To say Amen implies a great commitment, is to make a profession of faith, is to say to God that yes, that we agree with everything He tells us, is to repeat again and again that we will be faithful, is to ensure our hope .

It is sad that at the time of prayer it is as if we were talking with someone and at the end it is no longer necessary to continue with that conversation, because we already said amen.

Remember that it is not necessary to be in the church on your knees to talk with the Lord, we can do it during the day in our daily tasks. The Amen is only the "so be it" and not the dismissal or stop doing what he was doing, especially when we pray.

"In fact, all the promises of God find their" yes "in Jesus, so that through him we say" Amen "to God, to his glory." (2Cor 1,20).

To you who read this little reflection: "God bless you", I believe you will respond with "Amen."
