Animal Activities #11

Unexpected Friends
In a small village surrounded by green rice fields and lush trees, there lived a boy named Bima. He lived with his grandfather who worked as a goat farmer. Every morning, Bima helped his grandfather herd goats to the pasture near the river.

One day, while looking for grass for his goats, Bima saw a baby owl lying under a large tree. The bird looked weak and could not fly. He looked up and saw a nest on a high tree branch. It seemed like the baby bird had fallen from its nest.

Bima felt sorry for it and took it home. He named it "Owi" and took care of it with great love. Every night, Owi woke up and made her distinctive sound. At first, Bima had trouble sleeping because of the sound, but over time he got used to it.

Owi eventually learned to fly with Owi growing up. Owi's grandfather told him owls are wild animals. He did it was hard to Bima. He always brought Owi to forest after school so that she could become used with her surroundings.

On one particular night our goat pen was being way too loud. Bima and grandpa went there right away. It was a civet that tried to sneak into kid! All of a sudden, out of the darkness of night Owi showed up and bit the civet with her claws. The civet was frightened and started to run.

Since that incident, Bima realized that Owi should indeed live freely in nature. The next day, with a heavy heart, he took Owi to the forest and released her. Owi stared at Bima for a moment before flapping her wings and flying high.

A few nights later, as Bima sat in the yard, he heard the sound of an owl from a distance. He smiled, convinced that it was Owi who greeted him again. Even though he was free, his unexpected friend still remembered him.
