The first important point is that, due to increased human activities, because it's the Anthropocene, human activities are dominant, and soil erosion is being aggravated. That's one part. Also, the quality of soil is deteriorating, meaning it's degrading from its grade, so the gradation of soil is changing. And it's also important in the current scenario for food security that we plan soil conservation.

Let's discuss and elaborate on the first important point, which is to talk about soil erosion and land degradation together. These constitute one of the major problems that disturb the ecological balance of the world. One of the major issues being faced by the world in terms of ecological balance is soil erosion and land degradation. The rapid human population growth is leading to strain on the land and stress on soil resources.

Land degradation and soil erosion are happening due to various factors: deforestation contributes 29.5%, overgrazing contributes 34.5%, agricultural mismanagement contributes 28.1%, overexploitation of soil resources contributes 6.8%, and industrial activity contributes to the rest. Most of these important aspects are related to human beings, as overgrazing, deforestation, agricultural mismanagement, overexploitation, and industrial activities are all human-related phenomena creating this menace.

On a worldwide basis, more than 4.85 billion acres (about 1.96 billion hectares) of land, or roughly 17% of the Earth's vegetated land, has been degraded by humans to various extents already. This is a huge concern, especially considering the growing population and limited land availability.

Soil erosion is the displacement of topsoil particles from the land, a natural process that occurs on all lands. It may occur at a slow pace or a fast pace, depending on the agents or processes involved. Soil erosion in nature may be a slow process due to geological erosion or a fast process promoted by activities like deforestation and flooding.
