What are agricultural bye products, and name at least 5 you know?

Agricultural bye products can be defined as the secondary agricultural products that are derived during the processing of a primary agricultural product. These products are used in various industries for food,energy and for other purposes.

• Rice husks -This is a bye product of milled rice.

• Wheat bran –By-product of wheat milling which is commonly used as feed for livestock and in baking.

• Peanut shells –The peanut shell is gotten from processed peanut which is used as animal feed.

• Cottonseed hulls –This product is derived from the processing of cotton and is used as livestock feed

• Molasses –This is a bye product that is gotten from sugar processing which is used as animal feed.

What importance are these bye products to humans?

-Rice Husks

Renewable energy: Rice husk is used as biomass fuel for generation of electricity which reduces reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

Environmental protection: When It is recycled it can be used as a material for building.

Soil enhancement: it improves soil fertility.

-Wheat Bran

Animal nutrition: it is a rich source of fiber and nutrients for livestock.

Human consumption: it can be used for baking and it increases fiber in human diets.

Industrial applications: it is used in the production of bioethanol which helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

-Peanut Shells

Compost: it improves soil structure and fertility when it is composted.

Renewable energy: it is used as fuel and it promotes energy efficiency.

Industrial uses: it is used to manufacture activated carbon for filtration systems.

-Cottonseed Hulls

Animal feed: it is a source of roughage for cattle and it enhances the digestive health of a cattle.

Oil extraction: oil can be extracted from the cottonseed hull which is used in cooking and in cosmetic industries.

-Molasses

Fermentation industries: it is used in the production of yeast for baking and brewing of wine and it supports energy industries.

supplement for animal feed: it provides energy and nutrients for livestock.

Soil improvement: it is used in organic farming to improve soil microbiology and plant.
