Animal activities 32
Hello friends today I will be joining this contest hosted by @xkool24 titled animal activities. And I will be talking about chicken
Chickens: Habits, Diet, and Species
Chicken or chicks which is also known as gallus gallus domesticus is one of the most popular and we'll reared domestic animal this is because of its products like the eggs, chicks (children) and also it serve as meat for consumption. Their adaptability to the human world and lifestyle has made them available and seen in different environments from rural areas up to urban areas .
Habits and Behavior
Chickens are social animals that move around either in large packs or in small packs. Chicken spend their days sometimes curiously scratching the ground to find food and also do their dust bathing to keep their feathers clean . Chickens are active during the day and roosting at night
Also this lovely animals are omnivores and their diet vary that is it changes based on what they see to eat . Some things they eat include seed grains, insects , worms remains of food and many other. They have a strong love for eating some vegetables like lettuce. Also they do not have teeth so whatever they eat they just swallow them after they have the end them into small pieces .
Species and Breeds
As all domestic chicken belong to one same species they are are also divided into different breeds example is leghorn which are the main producers of the white eggs . Each breed is special with its own importance like some that are valued for their colour some for their meat production others for their rapid laying of eggs. Each breed is meant for a specific purpose.
Reproduction and Lifespan
Hens start to lay their eggs when there are 4 to 6 months old and without the rooster having intercourse with the hen the eggs won't be fertile so it cannot lay but if it is fertile the eggs will be lated perfectly. When the eggs are lated it takes 21 to 30 days of incubation or covering by the mother hen in other to hatch the eggs. Chickens span to live for 5 to 6 years and sometimes 7 years even.
Importance to Humans
Aside from their role as a food source, they are important to humans in the rural areas for pest control (by eating insects), and even waste reduction through scrap feeding. They also help in the research models in biology and genetics.
