Fabricating an Angle Grinder Holder
Our project for the day was the fabrication of an angle grinder holder. It was not just another task we were to do in the workshop; it was a project that challenged our creativity and allowed us to apply many of the practical skills we had been learning.
Our supervisor, Mr, Peters gave us a simple instruction. We were to fabricate an angle grinder holder, but he deliberately did not provide any design or drawing for us to follow. Instead, he encouraged us to think outside the box and come up with something unique. At first, the task seemed like a difficult one because we did not know exactly where to start. Along the line, we realized that it was an opportunity to be innovative and work as a team.
To get ideas on what we were to do, we searched the internet and looked at different angle grinder holder designs. We studied how they were fabricated and we then discussed the features that would be suitable for our own design. After sharing different opinions and suggestions, we agreed on a design that would be practical and easy to fabricate. We decided to make two holders, with each holder capable of carrying three angle grinders.
Before we began the actual fabrication, we first learned the basics of welding, as this was an important stage because welding was one of the major processes involved in the project. Learning how to strike an arc, control the electrode, and produce good weld beads was quite exciting. Although it was challenging at first, continuous practice gradually improved our confidence and skills.
The fabrication process involved several operations. We measured and marked the materials carefully to avoid errors. After that, we cut the metal pieces to the required dimensions using an angle grinder. We then bent the metal into the shapes needed for our design and assembled the different components together. Finally, we welded the pieces to form the completed angle grinder holders.

Seeing the finished holders gave me a great sense of satisfaction. It was rewarding to see an idea that started from online research and group discussions become a functional product that could safely hold multiple angle grinders.
This project exposed me to the practical aspects of fabrication and helped me understand that engineering is not only about theories and calculations. It also involves creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and the ability to transform ideas into useful products.
