My Experience with Neighbours
Hello, friends, welcome to my post in which I have discussed "My Experience with Neighbours" as part of my participation in this contest
Describe one memorable experience you have had with a neighbour. Was the experience positive or negative?
My neighbour and I are two understanding and helpful people who have been living in the same compound as brother and sister. She has been good to me, just as I have been good to her. And, every evening of the weekend, we stay outside and catch up. Sometimes, when I am looking for something or when she is going to the market, she informs me about her trip to the market to see if there is anything I need to buy, so she can help me and get it.
Some months ago, I complained of cockroaches, mosquitoes, and bedbugs coming out from my bathroom, and I have tried using several insecticides that haven't worked. Then, she promised to get a good and powerful insecticide for me whenever she remembered the name.
Just last week, she came and knocked at my door, and when I opened it, she handed over the insecticide called BNC in a sachet to me, which I put in my bathroom and other places that have worked very well. Today, I am so happy for what she did as the insecticide that she gave to me has really worked, and it is still working because I haven't been seeing cockroaches, bedbugs, or mosquitoes again since I applied the insecticide.
What lesson did you learn from that experience?
I learned about having a good heart and being sincere from that experience. When she told me that whenever she remembered and visited the market, she would get the insecticide for me, I thought she was joking, and I didn't remind her, but after some weeks, she brought it for me.
I learn about being patient with people when they make promises to me. I also learned about giving and caring for my neighbours, as she has proven to me that she has a good heart.
What qualities make a good neighbour in your opinion?
In my opinion, the qualities that make a good neighbour are:
- Respect for others
- Understanding when other people need privacy
- Not interfering in other people's problems, especially when neighbours are fighting, don't defend anyone; instead, be sincere.
- Caring and supportive
- Ability to pay for bills such as light and water bills
- Keeping the environment clean
Do you think neighbours are that important? Explain
Yes, I think neighbours are that important. In the absence of our family, neighbours are the family we have that can attend to any emergencies that may happen. Also, the first people who would be asked about our whereabouts or when something happens are our neighbours. Neighbours play a vital role in our lives, depending on how close we are to our neighbours.
Neighbours support community growth and development. Neighbours ensure that there is light, water, and the compound is well-kept. Also, neighbours ensure everyone in the compound is protected from insecurity by locking gates and providing their own means of security.
More neighbours ask new visitors questions and ensure the security of the person the visitor is visiting. Finally, neighbours provide and support one another, which, for me, I can't stay in a compound where I wouldn't have a neighbour.
I enjoyed reading your experience because it shows that good neighbours are not only those who greet us every day but those who genuinely care about our wellbeing. I honestly thought she would forget about the insecticide after mentioning it, so it was nice to see that she remembered and even brought it to you without being reminded. That simple act says a lot about her character.
I also like the lessons you drew from the experience. Sometimes we conclude too quickly that people won't keep their promises, but your neighbour proved otherwise. It reminds us that there are still sincere and thoughtful people around us.
Your point about neighbours being the first people to respond during emergencies is also very true. A peaceful and supportive neighbourhood makes daily life much easier. Thanks for sharing this beautiful experience, and I hope the friendship between you and your neighbour continues to grow. 🌹
Thank you so much for your support.
You are highly welcome sir
