STEEM Chugging Along: YouTube User with 4.5 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS Trying Out D.Tube

in #steem6 years ago

D.Tube is doing a fantastic job. It might have some limitations but it is certainly drawing people in. Perhaps it is receiving an assist from YouTube itself which is harming its smaller users while censoring everyone.

I want to introduce you to @furiouspete123. It looks like he signed up within the last couple weeks. Over that time, he posted a few things. However, last night, he put a video up on D.tube announcing that he was going to dabble in it a bit. According to the video he put up, he likes the openness of this blockchain which does not censor and allows people to post what they desire.

It seems that even the larger users are getting upset with Google/YouTube. Their desire to control the agenda over there is upsetting to many. This is only going to help the steem blockchain. Of late, D.Tube is doing a sensational job attracting the disgruntled people. Whatever is being done is working.

Here is the video he put up announcing that he was going to give D.Tube a try.

For the past 10 years, he was posting on YouTube. Over that time, he built a following of 4.5 million subscribers. In the YouTube world, that is a fairly heavy hitter.

Here is the link to his YouTube page:

D.Tube is sitting on some heavy Steem Power which was delegated to them for this very purpose. Guy like @furiouspete123 can come over to D.Tube and get hit with a fairly healthy upvote. This will only provide them more incentive to keep posting on here. With such a large following, it only makes sense for @furiouspete123 to get as many of his subscribers on here as possible.

The exponential growth that I discussed is starting to take place. Over time, we will see more people like this coming to this blockchain. D.Tube is doing a fabulous job and I expect Zappl, with their 500K delegation, to start doing something similar. These are two powerful applications which can really put a dent in the traditional social media apps. With little learning curve, one can be utilizing them within a few minutes of encountering them.

It is time to forget the FUD. Price action means nothing at this point. Whether STEEM is $6 or $4 is not relevant to anything at the moment (unless you are trying to buy more STEEM). What is important is what is taking place on the blockchain. As more people like furiouspete123 find out about this place, they are going to try it. Ultimately, it will only take the a few videos posted on YouTube by people like this before there is a mad rush over here.

Hopefully we see the automatic sign up process soon. It appears, if D.Tube keeps it up, there will be a bigger backlog unless that happens.

Everywhere I turn, there seems to be good things happening on the STEEM blockchain. $100 by year end is still on the table.

Nice!

Btw, here is an other 3milion+ youtuber that just got verified:
https://steemit.com/charlesfuchs/@stackin/the-hodgetwins-are-now-on-steemit-all-kinds-of-gains-all-kinds

I could see a day where Dtube becomes even bigger than steemit.com. These guys coming over with such huge followings could really make a massive difference to a small platform(At the moment). When looking at the alexa rank of both sites, the Dtube ranking is growing at a much faster rate even though it is a long way behind at the moment. Lets hope the reversal seen recently in the steemit.com alexa rank in the US stops soon and continues its upward trajectory.

It is good news, for sure.

But the benefit of bigger YouTubers coming over here only really happens when they stop posting to YouTube, tell their audience they're moving to DTube and post exclusively on DTube.

And let's see how many of them do that.

If they're just continuing to post on YouTube as well, not even mentioning, or only briefly mentioning DTube, then none of their audience is being introduced to DTube.

It's easy enough to post the same video to your 5m YouTube folllowers and make whatever Adsense/other income from that audience, and post the same video to DTube, making more money from your "new", more affluent audience too.

It's really the small content creators we should be embracing more. They won't be taking all the STEEM power without being fully invested in the platform.

So DTube, give your upvote power to the smaller content creators, and help build the stars of tomorrow.

Yeah, that's never going to happen. It's not really about content anymore. The people on top are only concerned about one thing: their investment. If big names keep arriving, even if they are double-posting, it doesn't matter because it will make the price of Steem go up. That's awesome for those who have a lot of it. But in this process, it also limits the amount that small producers are making, so the little guys get little to no benefit from the rise in the price of Steem. We exist only as insurance for the major policy holders. Without us, Steem would collapse, so we continue to be fed the idea that if we continue to post and create that we will rise, but that can ultimately never happen if SP delegation keeps getting absorbed by those who aren't even fully committed to the platform.

If you keep that up i wont be so alone down here in the doldrums.

The higher the steem price the less sp you build.
I got most of mine when the price was under .25usd.
And before the whales refused to vote me.

Someone had mentioned YouTubers receiving and incentive to try DTube. Their concern was that the trending page would likely be dominated with DTube videos once their followers come along too.

I feel that it is already hard for many newbies to get noticed on here. It’s going to get so much harder when the big players of YTube switch over (why not, SP delegation right). Will the trending page be dominated with DTube now or will the feature of communities still allow us to spot the posts of interests.

I know DTube still has some ways to go before pulling some of the big players over. They would need to work on interfacing with other application. My son watches YTube videos on his Amazon box. Would that be possible with DTube? Eventually maybe but not now (at least I don’t think so). That means a smaller audience base for some YTubers and the SP delegation incentive alone won’t be enough to bring them over. DTube would have to have an interface to external apps and give them more reason to switch.

I agree. I don't like this. So many people have worked so hard on here, and they will get squelched once YTube makes its way over. And why should they get special treatment? If they can migrate their fan base here naturally, great, more power to them, but I don't think they should get the red carpet roll out. It upsets the natural flow of things. though ultimately, this belief of "work hard and make money on here" is kind of a fallacy anyway, because you can be easily knocked out of the race to the top simply by buying your way on here. In a way, people can do that on YouTube as well by buying votes and views etc, but the return isn't nearly as high.

I feel completely unincentivized to keep producing content and investing my time when people who just arrive get a 5k dollar bonus just for being "gracious" enough to "try Steemit out". It's rather frustrating.

I have spoken about it before in my videos, but bigger isn't necessarily better. Getting a huge mass of people that are literally just here to upvote one person isn't helping this community grow, and it will discourage good content creators. This is pretty much the best way to stifle creativity and reward those who don't even need the recognition.

You make some very sound points @bethwheatcraft. I haven't been on here long but I have observed. It's what I do professionally, looking for disconnects, and we obviously have it here. It is very frustrating to see this incentive offered freely when there are individuals on here that put quality time writing blogs, curating and growing the Steemit platform. I don't have much time to write myself but I've seen many many great authors that simply do not get noticed and they've been here for months. Beautiful minds with stories to share with others but their place on here is just a speck of Steemit metadata.

Now, their stories will be buried further down once YouTubers take over the platform. Will or should there be division of the reward pool to the different platforms? I'm not versed with the blockchain and reward structure and not even sure if this is possible.

I feel that the delegated SP will allow YouTubers to utilize more bandwidth for their videos, but is this fair for the authors that write brilliantly, but cannot sign on because their bandwidth is low? They're not delegated SP, not unless a kind dolphin and whale notice their struggles. Are we rewarding the 'powerhouse', just like we do in life?

Keep in mind the heavy hitters on YouTube, who bring their followers over, are supported by people with no SP.

It is going to take them a while for all their followers to build up SP.

It is one thing to get hundreds of upvotes...yet if they have no value, it doesnt amount to much.

Yes, I agree @taskmaster4450. They will bring their followers (with no power),but these followers will be consuming bandwidth with the other newbies here on the platform. It is already hard for many newbies to come online on certain times of the day because of low bandwidth. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that bandwidth allotment also drops with heavy congestion. Now, YouTubers, with their delegated SP, will have plenty of online time. Their followers will join the other newbies with the low bandwidth issues. Ultimately, who will benefit most?

I want DTube to at least be a competitor to YouTube, and it's doing a good job. The main issue I have is that you can just share your YouTube videos on Steemit (which is faster than uploading to DTube,) and still get rewards. Right now, I see no point in DTube. They need to do something, like offer rewards for video milestones, to really encourage uploading.

Yeah it's amazing that Steem blockchain is getting some attention from big youtubers. This is definitely great news, because a lot of their followers will come over here as well. We will probably see a lot more big youtubers trying out D.tube because YouTube itself is becoming really bad...

At least using both...which is fine.

They arent about to abandon YouTube unless they are making huge money over here.....which isnt going to happen until their followers join AND power up. That will take a while.

Of course, YouTube won't die out for a long time and whoever joins D.tube will continue posting on YouTube, because they are earning a lot of money there still. D.tube won't give them the same amount of money that Youtube can. Not now at least.

It seems that even the larger users are getting upset with Google/YouTube. Their desire to control the agenda over there is upsetting to many. This is only going to help the steem blockchain. Of late, D.Tube is doing a sensational job attracting the disgruntled people. Whatever is being done is working.

It'd be really interesting if the new dTube re-settlers would mention HOW they found out about the platform ☺

I think a lot of it is targeting....there is a group that is targeting the bigger YouTube players...with advertisements, comments, and of course, the promise of big upvotes.

This is great news, I'll have to check out his video. He must be doing something right if he has 4.5 million followers.

I love the way these Facebook and uTube exec's take for granted that they are the only game out there, and we have to follow their rules. Just keep pushing your agenda down are throats and we'll just leave you.

Bye, bye, Facebook & uTube it's just a matter of time that you figure out we're not gonna take your crap anymore.

Welcome to Steemit @furiouspete123 and thanks for the update Task. 😎

The flood gates are starting to open, we better start preparing for a large influx of new users and some insane price action, even if the latter is not hugely important short term.

i almost thought that was you! sexy blonde ... :)
