One Important Downside To Steem's Social Media Arm That Some People Should Reconsider
Steem is the epitome of an emotional investment, and this can be dangerous.
I've seen this too many times over the years; people making investment and/or divestment decisions because of bad actors on the Steem blockchain. Ironically many of the bad actors are anonymous and faceless.
I've also seen people banished from success on the blockchain, thus ruining their personal financial opportunity. That makes me sick.
Yea, yea, you're not supposed to let anyone influence financial decisions... but they often still do when emotions run high.
I'm sure that most have had some type of personal experience with this. It's happened to me.
There have been many times I was so close to buying a lot of Steem, but public or Discord interactions made me stop to think twice. Am I foolish for letting this type of stuff turn me off? Are people foolish for buying Steem to have digital crypto kitty flag battles? Perhaps.
I'm probably not the only one. That's why I'm saying something. Like it or not, Steemians represent and market the blockchain.
Toxic passive-aggressive and blatantly aggressive/negative communication on our blockchain influences adopters and investors. It just does. When Steem needs all of the positive teamwork and energy it can get to succeed in a competitive emerging landscape, we simply can't afford this type of unhealthy behavior.
Why do so many people become emotional and unstable, akin to road rage, when triggered on Steem? Who the hell knows, but I do know that this selfish and immature behavior HURTS and adversely impacts the system and everyone associated with it. This includes financially.
Pathetic, but just another day for some of our biggest or most active stakeholders with nothing better to do. Thanks for ruining it for everyone else.
Seeing people fight with the emotional fortitude of tweens irks me. When it also involves money, power and influence using a digital blockchain token, it's actually a joke -- like a crypto kitty battle.
Regardless, it makes me NOT want to join the pool of influence with an investment because it'd mean that I support this activity. I don't want my money mixed with that lot, nor my friends and family to think I'm a part of it... since it's often plastered on the feeds for the world to see. I don't kiss ass or participate in politics, so I don't want my money in that mix with pressure from people to use it for one side or the other.
Oh, but I should be the change I want to see... I should invest to flag and counter such poor behavior? Not a chance in hell. I'm not going to pay money to add fuel to a fire, which hurts my overall investment potential.
I'd rather just earn my stake with no risk or obligation to muscle up for one side or the other to play house of cards.
Investors will seek to invest away from the ON-CHAIN tantrums and PUBLIC misuse/abuse of stake (or even consistent disrespect):
On the other hand, other chains like Bitcoin are virtually anonymous and have no playgrounds where people trade cowardly virtual blows like it's their job. Outside of forums and Reddit groups, it just does its thing without the drama or social variables that may impede its progress. I like that, but Steem is a different animal. It's a social blockchain, and that means that it comes with the pros and cons of social interaction.
Infighting and drama are clearly a bad look, bad press, bad energy, or just about bad everything. Nothing good comes from it, yet grown adults can't resist projecting their own issues into a digital vortex with strangers around the world. What do they accomplish or win that makes the circus worthwhile? No clue. While I normally would tell anyone to have fun bantering and bickering their lives away, or ignore it, it's different here because money is involved.
Negative interactions on the Steem blockchain impact the momentum of Steem, with respect to value, demand, viral marketing, development, and positive public relations. It impacts our investments, and therefore our investment decisions. It's too hard to just tune out the crap. It slowly drags others down and ruins a good thing.
In other words, stop ruining our investment and sweat equity over all of these years. Wake up and stop it NOW. There, I said it.
So, to anyone who this jives with, I wish you luck in not letting this type of stuff impact you. I'm not there yet, but maybe one day when the unstable Steemians that delay our progress move on or run out of gas.
Aside from a few general rants, I'll just stay in my lane and hope grown ass men and women who proclaim to be the next coming of Jesus wise up.
Totally. 100%. Agree on this.
