Happy new year all you jolly steemians.
As might be expected New Year's Eve has been quite quiet on the steemchain.
I sneaked in one wee milestone by reaching rep 70 - exactly and precisely one year from reaching rep 60. And it was all without the help of surgery or any artificial aids. Chuffed I am.
In amongst the chuff chuffs and choo choos there are three posts especially worthy of the highlighter pen today...
Where Art Thou, SMT - I hunt you far and wide
Steemhunt can't wait any longer, and have declared that they will be going with an ERC20 token in lieu of Smart Media Tokens, at least for the timebeing.
Since the 70% layoff of Steemit inc., the specs/plans for SMT project have been changed. First of all, the SMT will be launched as a SMT-lite version which won’t support the PoB (Proof-of-Brain) and DEX features. It may adopt just a simple token issuance and transfer among users. Also, the testnet is scheduled on March 15, 2019, but the target launching date may be flexible according to the past pattern.
I am guessing this may not be the last time we read this story, alas...

Is Gamification the answer to Steem problems?
Developer, and @wise-team witness partner, @noisy poses this question.
Recently he has spent a lot of time researching gamification. He believes it may hold an answer to Steem's woes.
But Steem to become a successful Social Network Blockchain... needs to first become a successful social network in the first place. Forget about blockchain and tokens. Steem should be a network which everyone would like to join even if blockchain and tokens would not exist. If we will transform Steem to something like that, then and only then Steem will be able to fully utilize the power of a blockchain.

For exactly this reason I decided to dedicate myself even more to explore the topic of Gamification in relation to Steem, to analyze all problems and potential solutions in this area.
