The secret backup man, Alvaro Arbeloa

in #steem5 years ago

A lesser known player maybe, but still an intrigue part of any team he played for, including the world and euro cup winning Spanish national team.

Alvaro was born in Salamanca, started his youth career at Zaragoza, but quickly moved to Madrid in his pursuit of something more.

After spending a year at SuperDepor, he was also a member of that Liverpool squad that lost the champions league finale to AC Milan, spending 2 years there, he was a very important member of the squad.
In his return to Madrid he mostly played a backup player who patched up Real Madrid's defense whenever needed, a function which always goes unnoticed.

Every successful club has their backup men.
Those are the unselfish people who sacrifice themselves, staying in the background, only for the more reknown first team members to take most of the credits.
But he was never more important to the team than when Mourinho was appointed, and he managed to get himself 153 appearances in the squad.

His trophy cabinet is nothing to sneeze at, either:
As he won the spanish league in 2011–12, Copa del Rey: 2010–11 and 2013–14, Supercopa 2012, won 2 Champions League titles in 2013–14, 2015–16, FIFA Club World Cup: 2014, UEFA Super Cup: 2014
Adding to his club career, he's also had a very successful international career, winning the FIFA World Cup in 2010 twice he was UEFA European Champion in 2008 and 2012.
Bet you never knew that, did you?
