Top 5 Things You Can Do For Steem
On January 20th 1961, during his inauguration as the 35th President of the United States of America, John F. Kennedy (in what would go down in history as one of the best inaugural speeches of all time) stunningly told the cheering crowd, "ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."
Kennedy's words provided a new way of looking at the intricate issue of governance and leadership - it would seem that in the quest for progress and fulfilment even the follower has as much stake as the leader.
So, in the spirit of the New Steem, I'll say that you ask not what Steem can do for you. Instead, ask what you can do for Steem. This article focuses on some of the important things that you can do for Steem.
1. Burn Steem
You can render a car as well as other valuable goods useless by burning it. But this is different for cryptocurrencies, including Steem.
By burning and destroying Steem, you help to reduce the amount of Steem in circulation.
And if we go by the elementary laws of demand and supply, burning Steem reduces the supply of Steem in the market and may have positive impact on the price.
It is interesting to see that many members of the Steem community are beginning to advocate and embrace the idea of burning Steem.
You can simply burn any amount of Steem by sending it to @null.
2. Buy Steem and Power Up
Buying and powering up Steem is another great thing you can do for Steem.
While it is one thing to buy Steem, it is another thing to power it up. Here, I am not talking about buying liquid Steem speculatively and dumping it on the market when the price favours your entry position. That's not helping Steem.
Instead, I am talking about buying Steem and powering it up for long term purposes. Such move is healthy for the price of Steem and builds the confidence of other investors.
3. Fight Abuse
One of the interesting things about the New Steem is that it has given everyone of us the power to fight abuse.
For the first time, there is a free downvote tool for us to police this blockchain, for us to fight reward pool abusers, for us to fight bad actors who aim to game the system.
By using the downvote tool appropriately, you help to maintain social control on the Steem blockchain, which is good for the progress of Steem.
4. Use Steem Dapps
At the moment, there are several wonderful dapps built on the Steem blockchain.
It is important to mention that the value of those dapps will only come from their massive usage.

In the past week i have purchased steem and powered up, i wrote a really good post and got a butt load of steem and i powered it up.
I will be powering up every chance i get as i believe in steem and hopefully everyone else does.
Good tips, @gandhibaba. I do a lot of what you suggest too. You might want to join in the monthly SPUD event for power ups. This happens each first of the month and is gaining support. You can do your own SPUD and/or offer prizes for the little people who do participate.
I only use dApps that pay with upvotes for my posts. Some you might want to look into are:
nTopaz - photos
travelfeed - travel
busy - good vote if you have some high sp followers
dPoll - to ask questions and get good answers
I promote on twitter where we have a lot of steemers. Its a hard road - I cannot get those people to RT! But I keep trying anyway.
