Would Steem and Cryptocurrency be Helpful in This Scenerio? ... if Trucks and Truck Drivers Stop

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

For 15 years I drove one of those big sloths on wheels all across the United States that many Americans have come to despise. They are slow, big and are often looked at as in the way to the in a hurry-late for work commuter who in reality woke up late and is running behind stuck in rush hour traffic.

Hell, I have even caught my own self-feeling agitated by slow moving big rigs while driving around in my own personal vehicle, and I know what it takes to drive one of those massive behemoths around.

I know the majority of us out there feel big trucks are a nuisance but have we stopped and thought about what kind of impact those truck and truck drivers have on our day to day lives?

What would happen if Billy Big Rigger and all his buddies said "f" it I'm out, I'm tired of being treated like a second rate citizen, screwed out of my time and sick of being on the receiving end of the middle finger every single damn day?

Let's take a look at how fast the US could deteriorate damn near to a 3rd world status in just 4-weeks ....

Day 1

0 to 24 hours... as news hits the American news airways of a trucker strike ...

FOOD SHORTAGES begin to develop as people flock to stores to stock up.
• US Mail and other package delivery STOPS within the first day of the news.
• Delivery of MEDICINE and MEDICAL SUPPLIES stops leaving hospitals running out of basic supplies such as syringes and catheters within just a few hours. Just in time delivery fails the hospitals in this scenario in just a few short hours.
• Service stations begin to RUN OUT OF FUEL as people line up for hours and miles to get fuel while they still can.
• Manufacturers lack components; assembly lines STOP leaving people jobless in the first day. Seriously? So truck drivers hold the key to many others employment status huh? Maybe the middle finger to Billy Big Rigger was not the smartest move ever.

All this and many other smaller side effects would take place in the very first 24 hours if American Trucks stopped moving ... pretty scary isn't it?

Day 2

25 to 48 hours ... as the majority of the US population becomes aware of the news massive panic and hoarding sets in on day 2...

• Fresh produce, milk, and bottled water completely DISAPPEAR from store shelves.
• All types of food shortages ESCALATE beyond the basic food necessities as consumers PANIC.
• Pharmacies close their doors as shipments have ceased.
ATMs RUN OUT OF CASH and banks will stop processing transactions.

In just 2 short days vital parts of American society have come to a complete halt. Many have already lost their jobs, especially manufacturer's as supplies can not reach the facilities to keep the assembly lines up and running.

Day 3

49 to 72 hours... Gas stations are now completely empty nationwide leading to ....

• All forms of TRANSPORTATION coming to a complete stop.
WATER treatment plants are now full and unable to take in any more.
• Most service-oriented businesses such as hotels start to run out of basic items to continue servicing leading to more lost jobs soon.

Day 4

73 to 96 hours... in just 4 short days we see just about a complete shutdown of the whole US infrastructure.

Service stations are CLOSED - all fuel and supplies are completely decimated at this point.
Bus service STOPS as the fuel barrels are now empty.
Air traffic STOPS as fuel has not been delivered for 4 days.
Garbage pick up STOPS and we start the process of drowning in our own society's waste.

Day 5

97 to 120 hours...

• Local drinking WATER is completely DEPLETED
• Hotels CLOSE their doors
• Restaurants CLOSE their doors
• School lunches are NO LONGER AVAILABLE to students who are still going into the classroom
Hospitals run out of oxygen and other vital materials needed for emergency health care.

In just one week ...

In just less than one week we have seen our hospitals run out of the most basic medical supplies like insulin, bandages, and even blood supply. Shear public panic will lead to run on food supplies depleting any surplus of food, fuel, and basic essentials.

Thank god the trucks and truckers are off the road now huh? Sadly no one else will be out driving around either.

In just one month of no trucks or truck drivers ...

The Nation's water supply will be completely decimated and all water will require being boiled before drinking, resulting in increased sickness and putting a heavy burden on an already weak medical system.

Every manufacturing factory will be completely shut down and offline at this point leaving millions jobless. Most major cities become filled cesspools of waste as garbage trucks are no longer able to operate and water treatment facilities are no longer able to function.

Only the wealthy elite, politically connected, and most powerful Americans will to able to afford even basic items and maybe even relocate leaving the US behind. In just 4 short weeks the US has become a 3rd world nation under its own crumbling infrastructure and literal waste.

In short, if trucks stop in the United States most of us are F'd.

But .... could cryptocurrency and steem save our asses??

Well in this scenario I don't believe so as the Steem dollar is pegged to the US Dollar where the US Dollar tends to be the world's benchmark and the US Dollar would tank in this case. Not to mention access to the internet would be severely limited. Even though I don't believe crypto would save ourselves, I still believe Steem is investement worth taking a look at right now.

The easiest solution to a doomsday scenario such as this is to simply respect our fellow American Truck Drivers out there sacrificing time away from their family to make all of our lives simpler and easier by having the goods and services we need when we need them.

Trucking has been good to me over my 15-year career as a driver, matter of fact by definition I am a millionaire purely and mostly from my trucking career. It is much easier for myself to thank a trucker for his or sacrifices than many others mainly because I know what it takes to endure that career and lifestyle.

Just simply remember this post the next time you want to curse that big rig or toss a middle finger their way or campaign for tougher restrictions on those silly big trucks driving down the highway.

And don't be afraid to shake and thank a truckers hand, or engross yourself in conversation with one. You might be surprised how well educated, dedicated and wonderful most of those truck drivers out there really are.

I would love to hear any ideas on how cryptocurrency could be of a benefit in a doomsday type scenario as this one. I look forward to any comments.

I drove a truck for 25 years.
It broke my health AND my wallet.

Sorry to hear that, I defiantly would agree on the health part. It takes a toll on it for sure. I might be one of the lucky few I guess who has done really well in the industry.

Although as an OTR it wasn't that great, it wasn't until I went O/P locally that I was able to do quite well, and being mechanically inclined and not dependent on high paid mechanics to do the majority of my work has been a huge benefit.

It's the same here in Germany - the truck drivers are basically enemies number one for everybody else on the road. Severe accidents - caused by car drivers' ignorance sometimes - are "their faults!".
There's too much disrespect for those who are bringing us food, water, gas. If all them stayed at home for only one single day, society would basically break down for a moment.
Much respect for you guys - every one of you who is driving the biggies deserves it.

Don't take it wrong, but we're pretty much ready for that scenario:

Not going to happen in our lifetime, do you honestly believe trucking companies in the US will fork out what it would cost to put a fleet of those together? Do you think the US Govt and each US state will be willing to lose all the revenue they gain from regulations on the trucking industry? No way in hell.

Just like the technology for trucks to get 35+ MPG has been around for awhile now, however, big oil and the government doesn't want to lose out on the revenue.

I am thinking you missed this part of that article ...

‘Strong undercurrent of denial’
Despite these developments, the trucking industry plays down the threat of disruption, arguing that people will still be needed behind the wheel for complex maneuvers and oversight. “You are not going to see a truck without a driver in it for a long time,” says Ted Scott from the American Trucking Associations. “The human being is an excellent driver 99.9% of the time. It’s just a tiny instance every now and then that causes a problem. Computers break down more than that.”

“The human being is an excellent driver 99.9% of the time. It’s just a tiny instance every now and then that causes a problem. Computers break down more than that.”

That's a ridiculous statement. Most of what goes on under the hood is already controlled by computers.

"do you honestly believe trucking companies in the US will fork out what it would cost to put a fleet of those together?"

Of course they will, the cost of a lidar/radar system with the needed software integration is much lower than that of a driver.

"Do you think the US Govt and each US state will be willing to lose all the revenue they gain from regulations on the trucking industry?"

Yea, idk. Look at the taxi industry. Uber is already making their self-driving taxis available to costumers for testing starting this month.
